Bentley S2 Standard Steel Saloon 1962

General description : 1962 Bentley S2 Standard Steel Saloon

Chassis number: B334DW
Registration number: AB16976 (Denmark.)

A lovely S2 that has been in the long term ownership of the Proprietors of Copenhagens authorized Rolls Royce service agents, Bernt Hansen.  Consequently it has been properly maintained by people who service Rolls Royces & Bentleys for a living.  During their tenure the car has been regularly & sparingly used for high days & holidays.

The off white paintwork was redone in recent years so presents very very well.  To the interior is original patinated St James red leather with matching red carpets.  The woodwork has all been removed & refinished to a mirror like sheen & is of  spectacularly figured Walnut.  The headlingin is original wool cloth. A scratched rear window is currently on order & being replaced prior to the car being sent over to our showrooms in a month or so.

We have inspected the car's underside & can report that it is good solid condition without the corrosion issues one finds on some examples.  The car is a strong driver with a quiet engine & smooth gearbox.  Prior to the current ownership the car was laid up for close to 20 years beofre being purchased & recommissioned a decade ago.  This is an above average vehicle benefitting from a lovely patinated original interior.

About Bentley
Before becoming a mere subsidiary to Rolls-Royce, Bentley was an independent Automaker famous for the "fastest lorries in the world" e.i Bentley 4½ Litre.

Good ol' Bentley boys (A group of wealthy British motorists, mainly Woolf Barnato, Sir Henry "Tim" Birkin, steeplechaser George Duller, aviator Glen Kidston, S.C.H. "Sammy" Davis, and Dr Dudley Benjafield ) -in their trusty Bentley cars- took four consecutive victories at 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1924, 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930

In 1931 Bentley was taken over British Central Equitable Trust that later proved to be a front for Rolls-Royce Limited. Unhappy with his role at Rolls-Royce, W.O. Bentley left the company when his contract expired in 1935 duly joining Lagonda. This was beginning of which ultimately led Bentley cars to become more or less badge-engineered Rolls-Royce.
