This collaboration not only brought the respected SS badge back to the Camaro for the first time since 1972, but it also allowed the Camaro Z28 SS to outperform its key rival, the Mustang Cobra. Aside from the visual improvements such as the hood scoop, bigger rear spoiler and five-spoke wheels, the 1997 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 SS gets a significant bump in horsepower out of the 5.7-liter LT1 V8 –305 hp up from the Z28's 285-hp rating.
