Ford Other 1987

General description : 1987 Ford Ranger Custom If you thought you were clicking on just another Ford Ranger then guess again!  This 1987 Custom Ford Ranger was the original Ford Racing project truck that was built for Sema in the late 80s.  In fact, the truck was awarded the Best Engineered Product at Sema in 1988.  Looking it over closely there you can see it really has had a lot of custom work done to it.  The pickup has 13,000 original miles which is very rare to find on these trucks as they were extremely good drivers and very popular.  It was originally black when shown previously but has since been repainted in a two tone 2008 Explorer Maroon and 2006 Cadillac Silver which work nicely together.  Some of the body customizations include the all steel front and rear roll pan, flush mount tail gate cover, tonneau cover, electric sliding rear window, frenched radio antenna, and vacuum operated hideaway license plate.  The truck has a slight rake and rides around on custom 16" Work wheels.  Looking inside the truck you will see it has the 140MPH speedometer and the 5.0 cu in 1985 Mustang engine under the hood will help you understand why.  The truck has plenty of power and is fitted with a 5 speed with overdrive Borg Warner transmission to back it up.  The engine is topped with all Ford Motorsport components and is kept cool by the aftermarket Griffin radiator and electric fan.  Disc brakes are found up front with drums in rear and a power unit will come with the truck when sold.  The power steering system is in place and has no problems.  An Auburn 7.5 inch positrac rear end is found in back and utilizes 3.50:1 gears.  The suspension system was built up with fiber glass springs w/dual spring rates, dropped I beam axles and front/rear sway bars.  It gives the truck a nice ride while lowering it a bit from the stock height. It has been lowered 3.5 inches in front and 5.5 inches in the rear. The inside of the truck is a combination of stock and custom components all done in Red.  The Red fabric high back bucket seats are very comfortable and have the shifter mounted between them to the floorboard.  Stock style bezels sit in front of the driver but all of the gauges have been changed out to Ford liquid filled gauges.  The stereo has been upgraded from stock as well and has a great sound.  A carpet liner was added to the bed which finishes it off nicely.  It has also been fitted with a full chrome roll cage that has been tied into the frame. With such low miles the truck is still fresher then most 2013 pickups you see on the road so check it out while its still available! SOLD

About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.
