BMW 635 CSI 635 CSi Highline 1989

General description : Model History

The E24 6-Series was an impressive and beautiful sports coupe. With its effortless performance it was great for any long distance trip. The E24 model was a great success for BMW and was produced from 1976 to 1989. The models ranged from the base 628 CSi to the M635 CSi. With its “shark nose” front end and stunning looks, the 6 Series really stood out.

June 1987 saw the introduction of the Highline model. The highline was available in both standard 635 and M635 models and took the E24 model range to new heights in luxury. With the introduction of the lavish full leather interiors including headlining, dash, console, door cards and parcel shelf, electric seats as standard, and later spec impact bumpers.

Equipment

Dolphin Grey Metallic paintwork, Lotus White Nappa leather upholstery, 415mm cross-spoke alloy wheels, Automatic transmission, Electrically-adjustable Sports seats, ‘Highline’ hand-stitched Nappa leather interior trim, Electric sunroof, Electric windows front and rear, Air conditioning, Cruise control, Rear window sunblind, Shadowline trim, Rear spoiler, Mud flaps front and rear.

Exterior

Finished in timeless Dolphin Grey with factory Shadowline trim this low mileage Highline really looks the part. As one of the final iterations of the ‘shark-nosed’ E24 the car is equipped with the later style body-coloured bumpers giving a sleeker look over earlier chrome bumper models. The condition of the paintwork is very good and, following on from a machine polish, every panel retains a uniform lustre. In line with the car’s age and mileage there are a few minor stone chips and discreetly touched-in blemishes but little else to detract from its overall impressive finish.

Interior

The lavish Lotus White ‘Highline’ interior certainly does not disappoint. Hand-stitched Nappa leather adorns not only the seats but also the door cards, center console, glovebox lid, dashboard, door pillars, headlining, and sun visors. The deeply bolstered sports seats are very well presented with only light patination and the leather remains soft and supple throughout, including at the rear where the seats appear to have seen little use.

The car is nicely spec’d with air conditioning, cruise control, electric windows, an electric sunroof, rear window sunblind, and an M Tech I steering wheel, all fully operational and all in fine condition. In the footwells you’ll find original BMW overmats, and fitted in the dash a tasteful Becker head unit.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The engine bay is really well preserved, remaining in fantastic original condition with much of the yellowish factory wax still visible. Reading through the history it’s clear the car has always been maintained to a high standard. The last service has only very recently been carried out in February 2023 at the current mileage of 83,411 miles.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The E24 sits on its factory 415mm cross-spoke alloys, all in great original condition with only a few small kerb marks and chips evidencing their age; brand new genuine BMW emblems have just been fitted for a very smart OEM finish. The wheels are shod in Michelin TRX tyres with ample tread left. The brakes have also been checked and remain in fine operational condition.

History File

First registered in October 1989 this fabulous Highline example has now seen only 4 keepers from new. The car is accompanied by an excellent maintenance history and comes fully inspected and freshly serviced at the current mileage.

Within the accompanying History File the lucky new owner will be presented with the original BMW document wallet, all owners’ manuals, a raft of maintenance invoices and old MOT certificates further verifying the mileage, spare keys, and the V5C showing 3 former keepers. Services have been carried out at the following mileages: 1,390 – 6,758 – 12,653 – 17,276 – 23,694 – 28,537 – 33,559 – 40,215 – 46,110 – 48,568 – 50,900 – 60,463 – 64,679 – 65,451 – 67,851 – 69,988 – 71,950 – 75,369 – 77,393 – 81,705 – 81,694 – and most recently at 83,411 miles in February 2023.

About BMW

ChatGPT
Bayerische Motoren Werke, commonly known as BMW, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1916. Initially established as an aircraft-engine manufacturer during World War I, BMW faced restrictions on aircraft production after the war. In response, the company shifted its focus to motorcycle production in 1923, marking the beginning of its involvement in the automotive industry. Subsequently, BMW entered the world of automobiles in 1928 by producing the DIXI, essentially a licensed version of the Austin 7 from the Austin Motor Company.

In the 1930s, BMW began to establish itself as a manufacturer of elegant and high-performance vehicles. One notable model from this era is the BMW 327, introduced in 1937. The 327 was available as both a coupe and a cabriolet, showcasing the brand's commitment to luxury and style. Additionally, BMW achieved success in sports car racing during this period, particularly with the BMW 328. The 328, which debuted in 1936, became renowned for its performance and aerodynamics. BMW campaigned the 328 in various racing events, including the prestigious Mille Miglia, where the company introduced several aerodynamic specials.

The post-war era proved challenging for BMW, and the company faced financial difficulties that nearly led to bankruptcy. However, BMW managed to recover and rebuild, eventually becoming one of the leading premium automotive brands globally.

As the 1960s unfolded, BMW further solidified its reputation for producing sports-oriented and luxurious vehicles. In 1968, the BMW 2002 was introduced, marking the birth of the "New Class" of compact, sporty sedans. The 2002 gained popularity for its agile handling and performance, laying the foundation for BMW's sporty image.

Moving into the 1970s, BMW expanded its lineup with the introduction of the E9 platform, which included the iconic BMW 3.0 CS coupe. The E9 series showcased BMW's commitment to blending performance and luxury. In 1972, the M1, BMW's first mid-engined sports car, made its debut. The M1 was initially developed as a racing car but later became a road-going model. The M1 laid the groundwork for BMW's high-performance M series.

In the late 1970s, the BMW E24 6 Series was introduced, offering a combination of luxury and performance. The 6 Series included models like the 630CS, 633CSi, and 635CSi, becoming a symbol of sophistication and driving pleasure.

Through these milestones and a commitment to innovation and performance, BMW has evolved into a powerhouse in the automotive industry, maintaining its status as one of the leading premium brands worldwide.
