Are you looking for a mostly original pink Cadillac? MotoeXotica Classic Cars can help; we are pleased to offer this 1956 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe de Ville Hardtop that could either be returned to showroom new or enjoyed in its original state. This unit is one of 25,086 Series 62 Coupe de Villes made in 1956 and has recently been part of a collection located in Amarillo Texas.
This example left the factory finished in Alpine White (code 90) over Mountain Laurel (code 46). The paint and trim are in overall very good order but there are blemishes visible on the passenger side at the hood and on the right rear and left rear of the roof. In addition, the rear taillights show blemishes. The radio antenna is missing, too.
The bodywork is straight, the heavy chrome bumpers are in very good condition, including the Dagmar one in front. The engine bay is in satisfactory order while the battery appears in very good condition. This coupe rolls on older wide whitewall tires on steel wheels and topped by factory wheel covers. The tires and wheel covers are all in decent condition.
Under the hood is a 365 CID V-8 engine, which was new for 1956. It was a bored and stroked version of Cadillac’s 331 CID V-8, which debuted in 1949. The engine is linked to a Hydramatic four-speed automatic transmission and this example has 3.36:1 rear axle (code P). Driver convenience features include power steering, power brakes, power windows, power front seats and optional heater.
Inside, a red interior replaced the original black cloth with white, green and pink dots plus pink leather (code 46). The front and rear seats, red carpet, red headliner, three-spoke ivory steering wheel, instrument panel, inner door panels and shift lever are all in good to fair condition. Completing the interior is a factory AM radio. The cars needs are: fuel gauge fluctuates, generator light is on, only master power window switch operates, wipers, horn and turn signals are inoperable.
In 1956, there was a new grille, with finer textured insert, and the repositioning of the parking lights in the bumpers, below the wing guards for Series 62 models. Buyers were given an option of the standard satin finish grille or an optional gold finish. Cadillac script was found on the left side. A narrow chrome molding and nine vertical louvers were seen. The Coupe de Ville had a model nameplate and a Cadillac crest on the sides of the front fenders. The Coupe de Ville was joined by the Series 62 Sedan de Ville, Cadillac's first standard production four-door hardtop. Similar to the Coupe de Ville, it was also more expensive and more luxuriously trimmed that the standard four-door Series 62. Given their sales success, it was only natural that the Coupe de Ville and Sedan de Ville were moved to their own separate series in 1959. Series 62 sales reached an all-time record in 1956 at 134,502 units, accounting for an all-time record 86.4 percent of all Cadillacs sold. This included 66,818 De Villes and 6,050 Eldorados.
Competition to this Series 62 Coupe de Ville in 1956 included Buick’s Series 60 Century Riviera, Chrysler’s New Yorker Newport, DeSoto’s Fireflite, Dodge’s Coronet Lancer, Lincoln’s Capri, Mercury’s Monterey, Oldsmobile’s 98 Deluxe Holiday, Packard’s Caribbean and Pontiac’s Star Chief.
