Chevrolet Chevelle 396 CID V8 1966

General description : Now for sale in our Houston showroom is this beautifully-restored 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396. This 138 series Chevelle SS has a 396 CID V8 and 2-speed Powerglide automatic. Built to L35 specs (396CID/325HP), the big 396 sends its twist out back to a limited-slip (Posi-trac) GM 12-bolt rear end with 3.73:1 gears, which is an excellent ratio for both acceleration and cruising with the 'Glide tranny. This 1966 Chevelle SS for sale has excellent low-end torque for getting away at those stop lights, and plenty of power for passing most mere excuses for cars. Cast iron exhaust manifolds funnel the spent gases into the 2.5" dual exhaust and help provide a nice muscle sound, albeit more subtly than if it had headers. Everything looks "factory", which is very cool indeed; and with only about 500 miles since both engine and transmission were rebuilt, this Chevelle SS has plenty of miles ahead of it! Speaking of cool, this SS 396 Chevelle has A/C, and its GM/Harrison system has been converted to use R134a refrigerant, which is a big plus for driving around when it's hot outside, or when it's super humid and one needs dehumidified air to keep the windows from fogging. The gorgeous Regal Red paint looks great, and is just the right color for such a well-executed vintage Chevelle. Inside, the black interior is in very good condition, with synthetic leather front buckets and rear bench having been redone to better than anything GM ever put out in 1967. The restoration has been done to a level that nearly everything looks like new, including the "knee knocker" tach. Additional features and options on this 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS include Air Conditioning, AM radio, Hub Caps, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Posi-Trac, Redline Radial Tires, Seat Belts, Spare Tire and Jack, and Vinyl Seating. About Chevrolet
Chevrolet aka Chevy, founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant is the best selling and biggest brand by General Motors -mainly due to low pricing.

No wonder Chevy the "working man's car" has become such an iconic part of Americana in films and pop-culture.

When talking about Chevy one must not ignore Chevrolet small-block V8 the world's most produced engine that has been in production since 1955 and still going strong.

Surprisingly, "America's only sports car" Corvette was introduced under Chevrolet brand rather than its own. To us the most memorable Corvette has to be The second generation (C2) Corvette, Sting Ray.

To compete with VW Beatle Chevrolet introduced Corvair a compact automobile built in 1960–1969 It was the only American designed, mass-produced passenger car to feature a rear-mounted air-cooled engine. Corvair handling was deemed notoriously bad mainly due to Ralph Nader's Unsafe at Any Speed. Although, any handling issues were soon solved the reputation did stick.

With Pony / Muscle car mania taking over the Americans, following the introduction of Ford Mustang, Chevrolet came up with one of its most famous models Camaro. During the first year alone they managed to sell 220,906 Camaros.
