Chevrolet Corvette 454 CID V8 1978

General description : This 1978 Chevrolet Corvette L82 Pace Car is for sale in our Louisville KY showroom. 1978 was the 25th anniversary of the Corvette and GM wanted to capitalize on this prestigious event with a special edition Corvette. After speaking with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, GM was able to obtain the rights to be the pace car for the race. The decision was made to have the car painted black and silver a classic color combination. They had 2 versions with base model having the L48 which consisted of close 75% of the cars. This beauty is one of the more coveted L82 models which was switched out for something that is a little more powerful. The new engine is still a small block, but the displacement has been increased to a total of 454 CI. The balanced and blueprint engine is putting out over 600HP,giving this pace car the power it deserves. A blueprint cast iron block was used which allows for a much longer stroke with the forged connecting rods being 6.00. The 950CFM carb feeds just the right amount of fuel and with the engine having a 10:1 compression pump gas works just fine. The TH350 transmission was rebuilt and seems to handle the power extremely well transferring the power to the rear wheels with ease. The custom exhaust really lets everyone know that this is not your normal small block. The interior is clean and with the leather still being soft and durable. The weather stripping was replaced as well as the T Tops ensuring a weather tight seal. The exterior of the car looks great with the remaining stickers still in their original box. To top everything off the car is even sold with the original window sticker showing the original 14410.21 sticker price equivalent to almost 54500 dollars in today’s money. If you have been wanting one of these Iconic Pace Cars but the performance wasn’t quite there for you this beauty has that problem squared away. Options on this 1978 Chevrolet Pace Car include, AM/FM, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows, Seat Belts, T-Tops, Raised White Letter Radial Tires, Aluminum Wheels, and Leather Interior. About Chevrolet
Chevrolet aka Chevy, founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant is the best selling and biggest brand by General Motors -mainly due to low pricing.

No wonder Chevy the "working man's car" has become such an iconic part of Americana in films and pop-culture.

When talking about Chevy one must not ignore Chevrolet small-block V8 the world's most produced engine that has been in production since 1955 and still going strong.

Surprisingly, "America's only sports car" Corvette was introduced under Chevrolet brand rather than its own. To us the most memorable Corvette has to be The second generation (C2) Corvette, Sting Ray.

To compete with VW Beatle Chevrolet introduced Corvair a compact automobile built in 1960–1969 It was the only American designed, mass-produced passenger car to feature a rear-mounted air-cooled engine. Corvair handling was deemed notoriously bad mainly due to Ralph Nader's Unsafe at Any Speed. Although, any handling issues were soon solved the reputation did stick.

With Pony / Muscle car mania taking over the Americans, following the introduction of Ford Mustang, Chevrolet came up with one of its most famous models Camaro. During the first year alone they managed to sell 220,906 Camaros.
