General description :
Every revolution creates a trend. Every trend has admirers. And for every admirer, there's a dilution of the revolution that created the trend in the first place. But every once in a while, a trend is so powerful it not only becomes the standard for what's cool with a particular clientele, it also sets a baseline for the culture around that clientele. Need some examples? We all know you don't button the second button of a 2-button suit. And we also know you can't wear brown shoes with a black belt. Like it or not, these are unspoken standards. With their tidy proportions and all-American athleticism, Shelby Cobras are certainly a standard in the sports car world. And the baseline for notable Cobra builds is a lightweight body, ferocious Ford power and somewhat conservative aesthetics. The question then becomes: what happens when someone meets that baseline and throws in a couple of great ideas for good measure? You get a break-neck collectable like this polished Kirkham roadster! Whether you're a diehard Cobra fan, an old school track carver or just a curious enthusiast who loves shiny things, it's not hard to see yourself enjoying good times and great equity in this mirrored classic!
POLISHED ALUMINUM > ALUMINUM
The pros at Provo, Utah's Kirkham Motorsports have gained quite a reputation for assembling serious performance machines. Founded when a hardcore enthusiast elicited the help of a Polish plane manufacturer, the firm is well-known for creating precision tributes that, in roller form, currently fetch $100K. Purchased in late 2016 by its current owner, this Kirkham 427 KMS/SC recently benefitted from $23,500 of professional sorting that was performed by Placentia, California's Voss Performance. Today, the car rolls as a timeless combination of killer style and serious performance that, like all Kirkham Cobras, is listed in the Shelby World Registry!
Since it's probably one of the nicest Kirkham Cobras on the planet, this glare-inducing beast nails the visual details! At the front of the car, a polished Nudge Bar leads modern headlights and clear, stainless-trimmed parking lamps. Satin stripes traverse a compact hood, which props a small scoop in front of stainless-cased glass that's outfitted with tinted visors, clear wind wings and stainless wipers. At the sides of that glass, polished mirrors reflect a sinuous profile that's laced with satin fender stripes, branded with monochromatic 'KIRKHAM 427' badging and capped with a polished, Monza-style fuel filler. And out back, a polished roll bar complements a chrome tag light, chrome-trimmed tail lamps, a locking trunk and a polished oval bumper.
527 > 427
This roadster's signage accurately advertises 427 cubic inches of American muscle. What it fails to convey is: instead of some romantic relic from a bygone era, would-be challengers are facing an aluminum Shelby FE 427 that, with the help of 100 extra cubic inches, twists 638 dyno-proven horsepower into 651 lb./ft. of tire-killing torque! Professionally overhauled to the tune of $11,933 by Arkadelphia, Arkansas' Craft Performance Engines, that spry mill kicks off with polished and port-matched Borla stacks. Those FAST-controlled pipes, added at a cost of $7,453, dump a choice mixture of air and fuel in to a lightweight aluminum intake. That plane floods hot aluminum heads that are built with Comp retainers, Smith Brothers pushrods, Comp springs and traditional Cobra Le Mans valve covers. Beneath those heads, a honed block cages a polished 4340 crank between Diamond Racing pistons, H-beam connecting rods and a full suite of Federal-Mogul bearings. Those pistons, wrapped in Mahle rings, frame Crane hydraulic roller lifters and a custom Comp hydraulic roller cam. At the front of that cam, a quality MSD distributor sequences spark between an MSD Blaster SS coil, MSD 6AL ignition and loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires. Beneath those wires, powder-coated headers roll charred dinosaurs in to stainless, powder-coated side-pipes. In front of those tubes, Ford Racing timing components complement a polished Edelbrock water pump that, along with a polished alternator, spins behind polished Concept One pulleys. Speaking of water, a big aluminum radiator circulates coolant around a 12-inch SPAL puller fan, polished tubes and a polished Kirkham expansion tank. Speaking of fluids, lubrication is handled by a quality Melling oil pump. And top notch accessories, like billet tanks, K&N breathers, ARP fasteners and a deep Kirkham oil pan, add just the right amount of detail to the car's striped and polished engine bay.
IT'S EVEN POLISHED ON THE BOTTOM
One of the best things about buying a professionally engineered Cobra tribute is the impressive hardware underneath. Fully sorted and completely detailed, this Kirkham's polished, ladder-style frame and billet, fully independent suspension are ready to hit the toughest track you can find. Behind the hotted 427, a tough Tremec 5-speed makes excellent use of a Quick Time bellhousing and a McLeod Stage III clutch. Vented discs combine with quality Wilwood calipers to provide confidence-inspiring stops. Electronic rack-and-pinion steering makes low speed parking almost as easy as high speed sweeps. Power meets the pavement through $3,895 worth of powder-coated Knock-Offs, which spin billet Kirkham spinners inside aggressive Goodyear billboards. And detailing is on point, with a 42-gallon fuel tank and quality AN fittings complementing stainless bolts and rubber-lined wheel wells.
FITS LIKE A GLOVE
Between the car's tidy doors, leather-wrapped buckets, which feature bright Crow Enterpizes safety harnesses, look great against $1,838 worth of new wool carpet and fresh leather panels. In front of those seats, a leather-wrapped dash founds Safecraft fire suppression beneath tasteful Kirkham and Speedhut telemetry. A wide console orients a polished shifter between a polished handbrake, buttons for trick seat heaters and a polished Safecraft fire extinguisher. The driver spins a polished and leather-wrapped steering wheel around metal Kirkham foot pedals. And the passengers store essentials in a striped and polished trunk.
Featuring professionally sorted performance, classic appeal and incredible aesthetics, this polished roadster provides unmatched exclusivity. It's an adventuresome take on one of the most desirable sports cars ever produced. And if you're the kind of enthusiast that likes to show and go, it's the perfect addition to your garage!
