Ford De Luxe 1948

General description : 1948 Ford Sedan Custom The 40's was an interesting time for Ford and all car manufacturers for that matter.  With WWII underway there was a lot of unpredictability in the industry and resources were being put towards the war effort.  What this meant for vehicles was a somewhat freezing of time where production was put on hold and designs didn't change.  However with the arrival of 1946 production had started to pick back up and although very similar to their 1942 ancestors the horizontal grills were introduced as well as some other slight changes.  The 1948 was the very last year for this body style as the designs would later drastically change into the shoebox style that would rule the 50s.  The 48 you see here is a very solid car that is in excellent condition.  It has a lot of modern features incorporated into the classic look and was built to be reliable.  It is the type of car that just feels solid.  We talk about this on a lot of cars but it is really tough to put into words.  You car guys know what we mean though.  The doors shut right, the ride feels good.  It is just one of those cars that feels like you could hop in it and go anywhere.  In fact, with a shop full of cars we are no strangers to trickle chargers, dying batteries and that sinking feeling when you turn the ignition and an old classic doesn't roar to life.  This car was sitting in line to get photographed and after a few weeks of not moving with no charger it started up as if it was just parked and ready for its daily drive around the block.  It really is in nice shape throughout and we really feel it is being listed for a very reasonable price.  The body on the car is very solid with no evidence of previous rust, patches or any body filler.  It is very straight and painted in a nice Burgundy Red.  Beige and Red pinstriping accents the nose and deck lid giving just the right touch of custom to the mostly stock exterior.  All of the original style stainless is cleanly mounted throughout with no pitting or issues.  The only other custom features you may note when walking around it is modern LED Trucklite headlights and LED tail lights have been added but are in the original bezels and the deck lid has also been shaved.  These are all very subtle features the combine perfectly with the original styling.  The car sits slightly lower than stock and looks great with its original style steel wheels with baby moon hubcaps. We get it, Chevy vs Ford has always been a thing and will continue to be a topic of controversy.  Often times when talking about the motor we are prepared to hear from two camps.  The purist who hate anything other than matching drivetrain to the manufacturer and then those who prefer modern performance over any brand loyalty.  Well no matter who you are it is going to be tough to critique this aspect of the car.  The drivetrain has been modernized with performance in mind but has stayed true to being a Ford.  It is now powered by a drivetrain that you would expect to find in a Mustang and it runs great.  The 302 V8 motor starts up smoothly and has been dressed up with classic features like a vintage chrome air cleaner and finned valve covers.  It is fitted with an Edelbrock carburetor and an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake.  The engine compartment is nicely done with a White firewall and cleanly routed wirings/hoses/etc.  It has an Aluminum radiator which eliminates any cooling issues in combination with mechanical and electric fans.  Paired with engine is a C4 automatic transmission and 8 inch Ford rear end.  The suspension has been gone through and now features a 3 inch drop traight axle, Posie super slide springs, parallel rear leaf springs, and QA1 adjustable shocks on all four corners.  The steering has also been changed out for a Saginaw manual steering box with needle bearing kinpins.  The brakes are all power assisted with discs up front and drums in rear.  Other notable changes include the Optima Battery and vacuum wipers.    Prior to the interior being finished out sound and heat barrier was installed on the floor, roof and doors.  This may seem like a small feature but any builder will tell you it is a must and greatly improves how it feels to ride around in the car.  In front and rear the car has its original bench seats but it has all been redone in Burgundy leather including the headliner.  On the front seat sits an aftermarket center console for storage and cupholders.  Through the floor a tall Gennie shifter is routed and moves through the gears smoothly.  The dash is topped by a lot of its original trim but a AM/FM/USB/Bluetooth stereo has been added as well as VDO gauges mounted in their original bezels.  The only thing not working properly is the clock.  A nice tilt column sits in front of the driver and has a 1940 Ford steering wheel.  The Vintage Air (Gen II super) system works great and provides AC, heat and defrost.  The trunk of the car houses the battery, spare and opens via a button on the dash.  If you are looking for classic style combined with reliability this 48 is definitely one to check out.  It has a great look and is an all around solid car.  Make it yours for $36,500.00!   NOW REDUCED DOWN TO $32,500.00!

About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.
