Ford Thunderbird 292 V8 1955

General description : 292 V8, 3SPD AUTO, PWR SEATS, RUNS/DRIVES GR8, GOOD COLORS IN/OUT, AFFORDABLE!!

Early Thunderbirds like this 1955 example remain some of the most collectable '50s cars and it's easy to understand why. With strong-performing V8s under the hood, a dash of luxury, and style that still makes people smile over sixty years later, these are ideal cars for the collector who enjoys driving.
This first-year Thunderbird truly came from the mind of artists, and you can see it in the clean line running from the headlight to the tailfin. Fit and finish are good, with doors that feel substantial and a trunk lid that fits so well that the gas filler is neatly centered in its opening. When you're a Thunderbird fan, you know to look for the extras. Items like the fender skirts and hardtop let you know this is a premium example of Ford's personal luxury cruiser. But, of course, the bright work on these is the real showstopper. It's complete and mirror-like appearance looks fantastic against the black paint on places like the wide mesh grille, factory wheel covers, and the twin tailpipes poking through the rear bumper guards. And speaking of standouts, the whitewall tires are a must-have for iconic style.
There are two timeless colors that go with black: red and white. So they used both for the interior. The way the two colors interweave on the seat, door panel, and dash make this a real class act. Plus, items like the tachometer, floor shift, and the machine aluminum panel that runs from door panel to door panel give this the sporty feeling that made them a Corvette rival. You even get great original pieces like the provisions for power seats and AM radio. We know you'll love slipping behind the factory dual-spoke steering wheel. It gives you a clear view of the nifty speedometer that's lit from behind by a Plexiglas "window" viewed through the windshield.
Under the hood is the "Thunderbird Special" 292 cubic inch V8. It has the bright chrome air cleaner and gorgeous cast aluminum valve covers that were part of a dress-up kit. The four-barrel carburetor adds plenty of power and a sweet purr to the dual exhaust. As a true personal luxury vehicle, the Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission makes driving effortless. So there's nothing stopping you from going out an enjoying this icon on the open road.

About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.
