Mercedes-Benz 190SL 1958

The most original RHD 190sl in existence? Unearthed in a garage in the north of England, this fabulous car has quite a story. Originally supplied to Rhodesia, South Africa to an Englishman stationed abroad, this fire engine red car was specified with an 050 cremeweiss hardtop to reflect the African sun’s heat. Supplied in 1958 she was his main vehicle until retirement and repatriated with the family in 1986. She was unloaded from the docks in Southampton, from where she was driven by the owner , along with his wife and children, to their new home in England. She was backed into the garage, and the door on the garage closed and that is where she stayed until late 2015 when discovered by us. The term “barn find” or “garage find” is too often applied to a car that has been left in a poor state of repair for many years, but in this instance, the term cannot be more fitting.
With junior disprin in the door pocket for the children’s travel sickness or the 30+ year old till receipt from a petrol station on the m1 on its journey home, the car sits as it did back in 1986 including its tax disc!. Transported back to our workshops she underwent a thorough examination of which revealed the most original 190sl we have ever seen. Never repaired or painted, this car requires not one single panel being replaced. The car can be restored and have every single factory panel, spot weld and body piece she was born with. This is a vehicle unlike any other ever seen, and should be restored with the very best care to ensure it becomes the finest 190sl in existence. A bold claim perhaps but a more unmolested, never welded and factory original car surely doesn’t exist, restored well this could well become the benchmark for all other W121s throughout the world.
This car is for the connoisseur collector for whom the very best is the minimal standard. Unrepeatable.
