Porsche 911 / 964 3.6 Liter Flat-6 1994

General description : 1994 Porsche 964 Speedster
VIN WP0CB2960RS465437 eng. no. 62R00624
Black with Black Leather

Porsche’s iconic 356 Speedster exemplifies the purity and clarity of the true sports car ideal, heralding performance over comfort, yet delivering a beautifully conceived sports car – one that continually appears in important collections throughout the world. In 1989 Porsche revived the Speedster name with a limited run based on the Carrera 3.2. When the newly developed 964 arrived, Porsche offered the Speedster based on the Type 964, featuring the 247 bhp 3.6 liter twin-plug air-cooled six-cylinder engine and all the other 964 improvements, including the sophisticated McPherson strut suspension to replace the torsion bars of all previous 911s. Originally intending to build approximately 3,000 units, Porsche ceased production after just two years, assembling only 936 units in total with only 427 examples delivered to the US.

In the spirit of the original Speedster, the car was pared down with a lower and more steeply raked windscreen, lightweight convertible top, no back seats, and simplified door panels. Like the 911 Speedster of 1989, the top was stowed under a hard shell rear tonneau, completing the stunning Speedster look that truly differentiates the car.

According to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this beautifully maintained three-owner Speedster is one of 427 delivered new to the US market. Ordered in the striking triple black color scheme, with black exterior, interior, and convertible top, the car came well appointed from the factory with extremely desirable Recaro bucket seats (shared with the European RS and fitted to no other US-bound cars other than optionally in Speedsters), a 5-speed manual transmission, cruise control, AM/FM radio w/cassette player, and air conditioning. Previous ownership was thoughtfully restrained, accumulating just under 14,000 miles since new, recording and retaining extensive dealer service records, including a major maintenance package and multi-point inspection within the last 200 miles.

Today, this Porsche Speedster is a model of thoughtful preservation and careful use. The paint is in essentially new condition, with beautiful high gloss and no marks of significance, showing beautiful luster and deep gloss to the highly reflective black finish. The lower rocker surfaces, front valance, and rear fenders are free from notable chips or damage. All glass is original to the car and shows essentially as new. Lighting, trim, and emblems are further beautifully preserved and nicely detailed. The original top has a tight fit to the windshield frame and shows beautifully when fastened in place. The wheels are free from edge marks or curb rash and the center emblems add a nice colorful factory touch, while the Michelin Pilot Sport tires show ample remaining tread for further driving enjoyment.

As one might expect, the interior of the car remains unmodified, with all factory components in place and excellent finishes throughout. The fixed back racing seats are evocative and extremely desirable (a pair fetches in excess of $20,000 on the secondary market) and retain their original upholstery complete with Recaro embossing and perforated inserts. The upholstery, carpets, dashboard, instruments, and switches all appear as new. The dashboard and steering wheel both exhibit fresh textures with no signs of wear. The supple black leather seats display excellent surfaces with no seam wear, foam compression, or bolster marks. The matching black carpeting is also in excellent condition, showing virtually no wear in the footwells. Even the unique Speedster leather door pulls nested in the smooth lightweight door panels show only mild evidence of use. Every surface of the interior has been carefully used and maintained without compromise, essentially as one might expect from a new car.

The engine compartment is exceptionally clean, beautifully detailed and unmodified. The factory finishes are consistent with the 14,000 miles recorded on this car. Even the engine stickers show little to no signs of heat cycling or edge wear. The front storage compartment is in equally exceptional condition, with no modifications and very nice visual presentation, appearing again as new. The factory correct red spare is in place as are the factory tools, air compressor, and other accessories. Underneath the car is a satisfying display of originality, intact factory-applied Cosmoline coating, proper fittings, and correctly installed smooth belly pans.

The car starts instantly and immediately settles into a smooth idle. The clutch and gearbox work in harmony moving effortlessly through all five speeds and reverse. The 3.6 liter engine, braking, and steering were top level when new and thusly every aspect of this car continues to respond today as one might expect from the first modern Porsche 911, still remarkably adept 25 years later, but with the wonderfully analog character of the air-cooled 911. Windows operate up and down smoothly and various interior features, switches, air conditioning, and instruments also perform as expected. Included with the car is a host of original items offered at delivery when new including all books and delivery pamphlets, recent service records, Porsche CoA, keys, Porsche owners pouch, tools, tool roll, jack, and the original Porsche air compressor.

This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a wonderfully preserved and nicely optioned 5-speed 964 Porsche Speedster with Recaro sport seats. One of only 427 examples built for the US market, this triple black original example must be counted as one of the finest low mileage examples in existence today. This car is ready to be driven, shown, or continually preserved in tribute to the timeless legacy of amazing sports cars built by Porsche.

About Porsche 911 / 964
The Porsche 964 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 models produced between 1989 and 1994. It was the successor to the Porsche 3.2 Carrera and was designed to be a more refined and modern version of the classic Porsche 911.

One of the major changes in the 964 was the introduction of an all-wheel-drive system, called the Carrera 4. The 964 was also the first Porsche 911 to feature power steering, anti-lock brakes, and an airbag as standard equipment. In addition, the suspension was updated to provide a smoother ride and better handling.

The 964 was powered by a range of engines, including a 3.3-liter turbocharged flat-six, a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated flat-six, and a 3.6-liter turbocharged flat-six. The top-of-the-line 964 Turbo S was capable of producing 385 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the fastest production cars of its time.

Today, the Porsche 964 is considered a classic sports car and is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. While it may not have the same level of performance as some of the newer Porsche 911 models, the 964 is still a thrilling car to drive and offers a unique driving experience that is difficult to replicate with modern cars.

As a hobbyist car, the Porsche 964 is popular among collectors and enthusiasts who enjoy working on and restoring classic cars. Its relatively simple design and mechanics make it a good choice for those who are interested in learning about automotive restoration and maintenance.

Overall, the Porsche 964 is an important part of Porsche's history and remains a beloved car among automotive enthusiasts around the world. Its unique combination of classic styling, modern features, and high performance capabilities make it a true icon of the Porsche brand.
