Volvo Amazon 123GT long-term ownership 50 yrs! completely restored an 1967

General description : The Volvo Amazon was first introduced to the public in 1956 and hit the roads in early 1957. It was ten years later that the 123 GT version was added to the series. It was the most luxurious an sporty version of the whole Amazon range. This car was assembled in Belgium and supplied by Volvo dealer Van De Vorst in Holland on the 5th June 1967. This first owner kept the car for an amazing 50 years until mid 2017! All documentation is correct and present, allowing us to follow its progression through the years. A few years ago the owner had the car completely, body-off, restored and mechanically rebuilt. Again this process has been carefully documented. This Volvo has type number 133951 M with S-Codes 5118, 5287, 5250 with confirms the fact that this car was indeed assembled in Belgium. The 100 Hp high-compression B 18B engine with twin carburettors and the 4-speed gearbox with Laycock de Normanvlle overdrive and small number produced distinguishes this car in no small way from the standard Amazon. This 123 GT also has the standardly equipped fully adjustable seat back, additional front fog lights, mudguard mounted wing mirrors, a special sports steering wheel and a integrated rev counter. This fast 123 GT is wonderfully well equipped for all those classic rallies and just makes this Volvo Amazon 123 GT with its amazing history so very special! Early Years and Foundation: Volvo was founded in 1927 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The first Volvo car, the ÖV4 (Jakob), rolled off the production line in 1927. Volvo quickly gained a reputation for producing sturdy and safe vehicles.
Safety Innovations: Volvo became synonymous with safety innovations. In the 1950s, they introduced the three-point seatbelt, a groundbreaking invention that became standard in automobiles worldwide. Over the years, Volvo continued to pioneer safety features such as crumple zones, rear-facing child seats, and side-impact protection.
Design Evolution: Volvo's design philosophy evolved, blending Scandinavian simplicity, functionality, and safety. The brand's design language embraced clean lines, robustness, and a focus on interior comfort.
Key Models Through the Years:
Amazon (120 Series): Introduced in the late 1950s, the Volvo Amazon featured elegant styling and became popular for its reliability and safety features.
140 Series: Launched in the 1960s, it showcased Volvo's focus on safety and introduced innovations like disc brakes.
240 Series: Introduced in the 1970s, the 240 became an iconic Volvo model known for its durability, safety, and boxy design, remaining in production for nearly 20 years.
850 Series: In the 1990s, Volvo introduced the 850, known for its innovative features, including the first front-wheel-drive model with a five-cylinder engine.
XC70 Series: The XC70 debuted in the early 2000s as an off-road variant of the V70 wagon. It combined Volvo's renowned safety features with all-wheel-drive capability and a higher ground clearance for enhanced off-road performance.
