Ever wondered what dropping a LT1 350 V-8 in mid-1950s cruiser would be like? MotoeXotica Classic Cars has the answer – we are proud to offer this 1956 Buick Century Riviera Hardtop Coupe Restomod. It was originally made in GM’s Atlanta, Georgia factory (VIN code C).  This car has undergone a long and costly transformation with attention to details!
Dressed in a scintillating Champagne over Copper, this car’s paint and trim are in overall excellent award winning condition.  This Buick’s bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the cargo area is tidy, the battery looks new and the chrome bumpers are in excellent order. There are a Continental spare tire kit and a center high-mounted stoplight (CHMSL) out back.
This Buick wears Hankook Optimo whitewall radials, size 235/75R15 at all four corners. Each tire is mounted to a Zenith true knock-off wire wheel. The tires and wheels are all in very good order.
Under the hood is an upgraded Chevrolet’s LT1 350 CID V-8 engine with fuel injection and dual exhausts, which replaced the factory 322 CID Fireball V-8 engine. Street & Performance of Mena, Arkansas enhanced the LT1. The engine has Francis wiring and a Walker radiator. The motor is linked to a 4L60E transmission with overdrive. Additional features include a Fatman front end, a new stainless steel fuel tank and front disc brakes. Other driver convenience features include vintage air-conditioning, power steering, power front seats and tilt/telescopic steering column.
Inside, the interior carries over the exterior colors. There are low-back bucket seats in front with a bench in the rear. They are in excellent order while the copper-colored carpet is in similar condition. There’s also a copper-colored headliner. A two-spoke steering wheel, steering column and gearshift lever from 70’s Chevy or GMC truck and match the rest of the interior’s theme. A digital instrumental panel replaces the dash’s original needles and dials. The dash and inner door panels are in very good order and the copper center console has the requisite dual cupholders. The glovebox hides the vintage A/C control panel. A JVC AM/FM stereo with CD player completes the interior. The original interior was Black Nylon and Ivory Cordaveen (code 632).
The model name Century came about when Buick was designing its first production automobile capable of reaching a speed of 100 mph. The division needed to come up with a name. One of the Buick executives had returned from a recent trip to Britain and told the other executives that the British referred to going 100 mph as “doing the century.” The executives liked the Century name and it stuck.
In 1954, Buick reintroduced the Century using the same formula of mating the smaller, lighter Buick Special body to its largest and most powerful 322 cubic inch V-8 engine, with the intent of giving Buick a performance vehicle.
Classic cars can be a classic case of The Grass Is Always Greener….everyone enjoys the notion of owning and driving a classic car but sometimes they can be uncomfortable, slow and hard to maneuver. This Buick’s upgrades neutralize those complaints while retaining the classic styling and appeal for which the brand was originally known and recognized. Stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to review this beautiful Buick in person. In 1956, they were the “Best Buicks Yet.”
