Chevrolet Nova 572 V8 1966

Allgemeine Beschreibung : Sometimes simple is good. This pro-street Nova is, literally, brilliant proof of that philosophy. With a distinct lack of flashy graphics or questionable body modifications clouding its ominous black paint, this Chevy stands out not because of what's there, but because of what isn't. Of course, to pull off an incredible car like this, everything you do HAS to be flawless. From the bodywork, to the powertrain, to the interior, there's simply nowhere shoddy workmanship can hide. Mixing 572 cubic inches of GM Performance Parts big block with a custom chassis, a professional grade driveline and ultra clean aesthetics, this exceptional hardtop is an all-American stunner. And if you're looking for a unique classic that's road ready, show-ready and just plain battle-ready, it's the perfect way to prowl the scene and bruise a few egos!
WELCOME TO THE DARK SIDE
First off, kudos to the guy who chose a 1966 Nova instead of one of Chevrolet's more famous and ubiquitous classics. No doubt all Chevys are cool, but it's always nice to see a Nova get this level of love, right? Right! That said, you really can't argue with the clean lines of the second generation Chevy II, and this car retains 100% factory-correct sheetmetal with the exception of '67 Nova fenders and a steel Cowl Induction Hood. During a professional rotisserie restoration, that metal was fully straightened and carefully aligned by Visser Rod and Custom of Havre De Grace, Maryland. Sinister Black 2-stage is deep and rich, casting vivid, unbroken reflections. And there's no metallic, pearl or glitter to mask thoughtful aesthetics that, in a nutshell, simply work.
A quick look at our high resolution photos reveals trim and ornamentation that remain mostly as the General specified. At the front of the car's body, a familiar Super Sport grille hangs modern H4 headlights above a smoothed and tucked bumper that's complete with small parking lamps. At the top of the car, the aforementioned Cowl Induction Hood leads a filled and shaved cowl, which fronts smoked glass that's caged in straight stainless frames. At the sides of that glass, polished bowtie mirrors reflect a fully shaved profile. And out back, a second smoothed and tucked bumper frames simple taillights and a shaved decklid.
GM PERFORMANCE PARTS ZZ572
Enact this Nova's custom hood supports and you'll find one of the largest big blocks GM has ever created: a 572 cubic inch monster that cranks out 621 horsepower on plain ol' pump gas! At the top of that magic mill, a Charcoal air cleaner floats a reusable filter element above a big, Holley-fed 4-barrel, which rides a tall Chevrolet intake. At the sides of that plane, color-keyed Proform valve covers balance a polished cap and billet breathers on aluminum, rectangle-port heads, which are finished with aluminum roller rockers. Under those heads, a tough iron block, hemmed with a deep-sump oil pan, spins a forged steel crank beneath forged aluminum pistons that are pinned to forged and shot peened rods. Those pistons push 9.6 to 1 compression at the sides of a fluid hydraulic roller cam. Those internals play well with an HEI distributor and loomed and sleeved MSD Street Fire wires. At the front of those wires, a Billet Specialties Tru Trac serpentine drive spins a trusty Edelbrock water pump between a polished Powermaster alternator, a polished AC compressor and a requisite ATI Super Damper. A polished aluminum radiator makes excellent use of a MQQN temp gauge, a bowtie-capped water neck, a polished expansion tank and spry SPAL puller fans. Exhaust duties are handled by custom, long-tube headers. And all that world class go is wrapped in a custom, body-matched engine bay.
BITE TO BACK UP THE BARK
Behind the killer big block, a cooled Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed, sourced from ATI Performance Products, employs a transbrake, a reverse manual valve body and a Gear Vendors overdrive. That transmission, armored with a polished flywheel cover and a clean Moroso fluid pan, jerks a narrowed and braced 9-inch that's finished with a Detroit Locker, Strange 35-spline axles and tame, 3.73 gears. We say 'tame' because the car's sale includes a second Strange third-member that's stuffed with a much more aggressive 4.56 gearset. That driveline hangs in a custom chromoly and mild steel chassis that's bolted to custom floors and a custom, fully tubbed back-half. Everything rolls on a Heidts PRO-G 4-link, which strings adjustable QA-1 coil-overs opposite a polished Heidts SUPERIDE front-clip. That clip centers power rack-and-pinion steering between a duo of Aldan American coil-overs. A floor-mounted brake booster jolts stops through four polished calipers and four drilled and slotted rotors. The coated headers dump spent gases in to custom, TIG-welded pipes that have been professionally coated and carefully wrapped. The car's choice detailing continues with body-matched floors that are dotted with high quality ancillaries like AN fittings, stainless fluid lines and a 20-gallon fuel cell. And everything rolls on polished Budnik wheels, which spin 205/55ZR16 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As in front of 33x22.00R18LT Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/Rs.
GUARDED AND CODDLED
Behind this classic's electric doors, a custom, hand-built cage cradles a custom leather interior that was installed by Chuck Hanna of Mooresville, North Carolina's Hot Rod Interiors. 5-point Corbeau harnesses hug tall Corbeau buckets. In front of those seats, a custom, body-matched dash plants a full array of Auto Meter telemetry, complete with a Pro-Comp Ultra-Lite clock, between billet foot pedals and premium Ron Francis wiring. A custom, body-matched console looks right at home framing Vintage Air conditioning, switches for the car's power windows and an angled Hurst ratchet shifter. In front of the driver, a half-wrapped Budnik wheel laps a polished, tilting column. And behind the passengers, an electronic decklid reveals a tastefully finished trunk that hides the car's Optima gel cell battery.
It's impossible to guess how many hours it took to construct this amazing Chevy. But, given the lengthy list of equipment that went in to its build, our asking price probably wouldn't even cover the components, let alone labor. At first glance, the car appears to be a basic and simple piece, but an acute attention to detail and amazing quality grab your attention almost instantly. All that said, one thing is certain: bold and brutal, there's no hiding how brilliant this Nova is when you're behind the wheel!
