You want a '34 Ford? There are dozens available at any given moment. But if you want something a little unique that still has that same mid-30s style, this 1934 Chevrolet two-door sedan deserves your consideration. With lots of upgrades, it's a well-engineered rod that drives and rides like it should and offers a fresh take on an old favorite.
The chopped two-door sedan has an undeniably sleek look that seems to emphasize the 1930s design elements. The body is steel, not a fiberglass reproduction, and that means a lot when you're building a rod; steel bodies just feel better. It does have 'glass fenders, and it's important have experts finishing it to get the results you see here. Super smooth surfaces mean hours of laborious hand sanding and the fit of the doors, hood, and fenders are more evidence that the guys in charge of the build knew what they were doing. Of course, when you're building a car like this from scratch, it's easy to do stuff like shaved door handles, filled roof, and that cool three-piece hood, plus the chopped roof has just the right amount of rake in it to add the ideal hot-rod look. The bright turquoise paint is vivid, no doubt about that, but it's also clean and modern with some sweeping graphics running from nose to tail that work rather well with the bodywork. It's no longer perfect, but it's still nice enough to show with pride at your local cruise night and it'll definitely stand out among all the garden-variety Fords.
Now that sedans are coming into their own as legitimate hot rod material, you'll discover that being able to take the whole family with you is a big advantage. The bright turquoise upholstery is anchored by green carpets (they might need replacing), and highlighted with white door panels for a very vivid but well-crafted interior. There's an awesome sculpted headliner, comfortable buckets from a late-model, and nice details throughout. Dig the custom door panels, the billet dash panel full of VDO gauges, and the neatly trimmed garnish moldings that surround the chopped window openings. Then there's the modern steering column with a leather-wrapped LaCarrera wheel and the neatly-installed A/C system, which is so well integrated that it looks like it was born there in 1934. An AM/FM/CD stereo provides the entertainment and everything is in such good condition it's hard to believe the build is quite a few years old. It's really, really nice.
A familiar 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 provides the kind of reliable power that makes for a great-driving rod. Brightly finished with lots of chrome but nothing radical, it starts easily and hums down the road for mile after mile without complaint. A 4-barrel carb and aluminum manifold make power on the intake side, while twin glasspack-style mufflers handle the exhaust. The chassis is sensibly built with a Mustang II suspension, power front disc brakes, power rack-and-pinion steering, and a 10-bolt GM rear axle with 3.00 gears inside. A 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission swaps the gears and it sits right on a set of staggered 14- and 15-inch Centerline wheels with staggered 205/75/14 front and 235/75/15 rear blackwall radials that fill the fenders perfectly.
Nicely built, fully sorted, and ready to enjoy, this handsome Chevy rod delivers something a bit out of the ordinary without changing the basic recipe. With a few appropriate updates, this could be a first-rate rod, but even as it is today, it's a heck of a lot of fun. Call today!
