The design of the Club Coupe is a special one. It looks a bit sleeker than the Tudor sedan that was also offered, because the longer trunk line gives it some nice proportions. There are even some cool custom pieces, like the upgraded hood ornament, driver's spotlight, side window overhangs, and Cadillac wheel covers. It all adds to the cool 1950s cruiser feeling.
Inside, the red and white two-tone really continues the classic feeling nicely. And we love the thoughtfulness of how it's intertwined in places like the contrast piping on the bright white seats. There's even more nostalgia when you slip behind the wheel. This is where you can tell today that the Thunderbird was on its way. The engine-turned panel and nifty speedometer in a clear acrylic panel (currently for display) are hallmarks of the iconic personal coupe. As you look around the rest of this coupe, you're going to see more great vintage items. It's everywhere from the working AM radio to the very original-looking full size spare in the trunk.
While you've already seen plenty of cool features, the best one is under the hood. 1954 was the first year for the new overhead valve V8. The U4 in the VIN tells you that the 239 cubic-inch powerplant is the factory-correct motor for this Ford. It's exceptionally showcased in the engine bay with the tall, bold red oil bath air cleaner and the valve covers to match. You'll love looking at all the original-style components, even the windshield washer fluid bag. On the road, you'll be quite happy you chose a model year with the new motor because it gives this cruising Ford a little extra kick of power over the flathead cars. There are some nice everyday upgrades like a 12-volt electric system and even an electric fan. Plus, the three-speed Fordomatic automatic transmission keeps this distinct coupe an easy way to spend a day.
