No one will ever mistake this 1967 Ford Mustang fastback restomod for anything stock. But for the few who don't see the paint, the wheels, or any of the other new aggressive touches, the quad Weber stroker V8, five-speed manual transmission, and fully independent (yes, fully independent!) suspension will teach them a lesson to take notice.
This is a detailed restoration of a very dark pony. They invested $88k in creating this custom. The Raven Black was applied with an expert hand during the 2006 restoration, and with less than 2,400 miles since then, the finish still looks like black glass. So you really get to see the good panels and well-creased lines of this fastback coupe. And all the classic brightwork looks great against this glossy black. The form-fitting bumpers, GT grille, rocker panels, and delicate trim all radiates the moment the sunlight hits it. This restomod has a great custom look with the lightweight fiberglass hood that adds an aggressive hood scoop. Plus, the Pepper Gray racing stripes add a bit of Eleanor attitude. And those wheels appear to be classic Mags, but a second look will show that they are custom billet pieces filling the wheel wells with a larger 17-inch size.
The black and chrome attitude continues inside. The door panels, carpeting, headliner, dash and leather seats have the fresh feeling that comes from a low mileage build. They are accented nicely by all the bright trim on the door panels, dash, and premium center console. You get a Budnik steering wheel on a tilt column. And the cue-ball stick shift goes great with the white-faced gauges. And yes, this upgraded readout package is the special Classic Instruments Bullitt package. It's a nice reminder that this one might have an AM/FM/CD changer stereo, but your real favorite soundtrack begins under the hood.
You are going to love showing off this motor. The super tidy presentation means you get a terrific view of 347 cubic-inch stroker V8 with completion-style vertical stacks on top. Beneath this is a set of four two-barrel Weber carbs for a high-performance setup. This mighty V8 exhales with authority as long tube headers feed the dual exhaust. And not only does this full package make a thunderous sound, but also it's rated at around a street-eating 450 horsepower. A motor like this needs the right supporting components, and so you get everything from a March serpentine belt system, to a Griffin aluminum radiator w/electric fans. And the a Tremec TKO600 five-speed manual with blow-proof bell housing is a stout unit that lets you take full control over this powerful V8. While you're looking over every inch of this build, the undercarriage photos are going to be your favorite part. That's when you'll see all the best suspension upgrades. Up front is a new suspension with tubular A-arms. In the rear is a Jaguar-style IRS with stabilizer bar – yes, a '67 with a fully independent suspension! Plus, there's a four-wheel disc brake set with the rear ones inboard for enhanced handling. Finish the package off with power steering and grippy Nitto Extreme ZR tires, and you have got the best all-around pony on the road.
