Wrapping a legendary flathead in a super clean restoration, this crisp coupe draws big crowds and big compliments everywhere it goes. And if you're in the market for a fun cruiser that is as reliable as it is cool, it's a great candidate for your next classic!
APPEARANCE
Owned by the same dedicated enthusiast for the last 30 years, this fine-looking Ford is the beneficiary of a detailed, body-off restoration that was fully documented with photos. That selective rebuild reflects a cool coat of Pearl White 2-stage. And that quality pigment mixes with bright flash to highlight a distinctive, retro character.
American optimism at its very finest, this classic's ornate design is a stunning example of how Popular Culture shapes the transportation industry. At the front of the car, a polished grille founds a polished bullet between a guarded bumper, rocket-themed parking lamps and stainless-trimmed headlights. Above that grille, a domed hood centers an ornate crest and streamlined topper in front of a stainless-trimmed windshield that's cleared by satin-finished wipers. That glass leads a stainless-trimmed, 'Victoria' branded greenhouse, which positions two more ornate Ford crests opposite tidy mirrors and traditional door handles. At the sides of that greenhouse, rounded fenders hang stainless spears between blocky 'V8' emblems, svelte 'Crestline' scripts and stylish rocker guards. And at the back of the car, a second guarded bumper frames sculpted taillights, rocket-themed reverse lamps and a fourth classy Ford crest.
POWER
If Henry Ford perfected one aspect of his automobiles, it was the Ford V8. Introduced in 1932 as a durable, torque-rich competitor to more expensive and labor-intensive 8-cylinders, the flathead has established an unmatched reputation as the go-to mill for vintage and kustom car enthusiasts. And, in keeping with tradition, this stellar classic is powered by 239 cubic inches of 'flatty' V8. Spinning smooth compression into roughly 100 horsepower, the throaty engine growls with the help of a roster of vintage parts. Air enters through a painted and decaled oil bath and, juiced by a small Ford carburetor, exits through correct, cast iron Fenton headers. Pliable belts turn a traditional generator while a beefy radiator cycles water through big Ford hoses and tight screw clamps. Aesthetically, the block, which perches a correctly-decaled oil canister on 24-stud heads, has been painted a sedate red hue. And overall, the car's glossy engine bay is a charming and 100% functional step back in to a much simpler, and some would say better, period of American automotive history.
DRIVABILITY
Take a look under this cool coupe and you'll see just how much the automotive world has changed when it comes to ride, handling and structural integrity. The car's solid floors make a suitable backdrop for a Satin Black frame and factory-accurate suspension. A 3-speed manual transmission sends power to a familiar Ford axle. In front of that drivetrain, control arms and coil springs remain just as they looked back in 1952. And the same holds true behind that drivetrain, where leaf springs and the aforementioned pumpkin add integrity and grip. Stops are provided by four drum brakes. True-dual exhaust suspends glasspack-style mufflers in front of polished stainless tips. And everything rides on polished American Racing Torq Thrust IIs, which spin 205/75R15 Uniroyal Tiger Paws around 'Ford' stamped center caps.
COMFORT
Inside this Victoria, a tasteful interior appears much more upscale than the car's age would suggest. Broad bench seats, which sport rich, 2-tone covers, ride clean carpet that's protected by weather-free mats. In front of those thrones, a color-keyed dash founds clear gauges and a correct AM radio above factory Magic Aire heat. At the sides of that dash, 2-tone door panels frame correct chrome handles. In front of the driver, an artful Ford steering wheel spins a full horn ring around a factory shifter. And behind the passengers, a carpeted trunk hides full-size spare tire.
