LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda

With stiff competition from the Mustang and Camaro’s of the 1960’s, Chrysler was paying attention to the rapidly expanding youthful compact car market. Their intermediate Dodge Charger and Plymouth Road Runner models were reasonably successful, but the small Valiant-based Plymouth Barracuda, introduced before the Mustang in 1964, had never made a big splash. The engineers decided to both simplify the Barracuda for its third generation, to be introduced in 1969 as a 1970 model, and to equip it with everything it would need to guarantee success on the street and on the drag strip. The AAR was discontinued for 1971, but the other Cuda variants were carried over with a splash of fish-inspired style; the single headlamps, recessed horizontal grille and integrated signals lights were replaced by quad headlamps flanking a six-"gill" grille and under-bumper signal lights. The 71 Cuda’s also sported four simulated front fender vents, and separate-element tail lamps replaced the one-piece units. Redesigned side stripes included the famous "billboard" units with integrated engine callouts.

This amazing 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda was sold new at Johnston Motor Sales on April 20th, 1971 to its first and only owner. This was his first car and at 16 years of age needed a little help from his mom. She agreed and he went ahead and ordered his dream car in the beautiful B5 True Blue Metallic paint with Black billboards complemented by a black vinyl bucket seat interior. To power his new Cuda, he specified the Super Commando 383 engine package with the optional 727 Torque Flite automatic. Other options included power disc brakes, power steering, rallye wheels, billboards, console, dual racing mirrors, rear defogger, rear speaker, radio, rallye cluster, collapsible spare and F70 x14 tires. As per the original bill of sale, it cost him a total of $4,803 for his new hot rod!

Today this amazing ‘Cuda presents in outstanding original condition having never been restored. It was found in the original owner’s garage from which it hadn’t moved in years. From new, it had been lovingly cared for by its original owner and always stored inside. Amazingly it still wears most of its original paint and retains its original interior. With only 71,815 miles on the odometer, it even still retains its numbers matching engine. If you look under the hood, you can still see original decals and inspection markings. The original fender tag and inspection tag are present outlining the options it was born with. It even has its Rallye wheels that were stored off the car to preserve them and the polyglass tires.

Documenting this original survivor is the original purchase order, bill of sale, dealer brochure and owner’s manuals. Upon arrival, we removed the rear seat to uncover the original broadcast sheet which was still in the same place when it had left the assembly line!

It is becoming increasingly hard to find original cars in this condition that have been untouched and preserved throughout the years. This example having never been modified from stock, showed how much the original owner had cared and has preserved the originality. For the Mopar collector who appreciates originality, ownership history, documentation than this 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda is a must have for your collection!
