Vintage trucks are extremely popular right now, and if this 1966 Chevrolet C10 pickup is any indication, there's a bright future in old haulers. From the striking bright orange paint to the rumbling 350 under the hood, this cool pickup offers a custom twist on the original design.
Finished in what appears to be Hugger Orange, this truck is a movie star. The stepside bodywork offers dramatic styling with lots of swoops and curves, as well as brilliant use of trim, and all of it remains 100% intact on this hauler. Other styling details include the wing-like lip at the back of the cab, which probably has no real function but looks really cool, and the neat crease that surrounds the entire cab. Paint and bodywork are done to a good standard, so this truck will be right at home both at local shows and on the streets afterwards. Unlike so many of these trucks, they avoided modern add-ons and stuck with factory-style sheetmetal and a single-color paint job, which always looks right. All the original trim remains, too, from the massive front and rear bumpers and delicate egg crate grille (which looks new), to the neat side mirrors that look like industrial art all by themselves. The bed floor is done in oak, as was typical back then, and it's in such good shape that you might be afraid to use this truck as a hauler.
Trucks were austere machines when they were new, but this one has had a full luxury upgrade during the build. The original bench was recovered in black and orange vinyl, tying in neatly with the black carpets, orange dash and custom door panels. Simplicity was the key so they didn't go overboard with upgrades, and while the build was obviously done a few years ago, it shows very little wear. The original gauges are a very cool setup with a single cover, along with a Sunpro tack tucked in for good measure and a pair of auxiliary gauges installed under the dash. A tilt steering column and Grant GT wheel with wood rim help keep comfort levels up and an AM/FM/CD stereo was tucked under the dash. And no, we don't know who the bearded fellow is peeking at you from within the dash so go ahead and make up an interesting story to tell at shows.
When the truck was restored a few years ago, a 350 cubic inch V8 was nestled between the front fenders to make it runs as good as it looks. Vortec center-bolt aluminum heads, an Edelbrock intake manifold, and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor help make power, so it runs beautifully, and all the accessories were upgraded, including the alternator, power steering, power brakes, and a big radiator up front. A few chrome dress-up parts make it look good and the Orange paint in the engine bay provides a great background. It starts easily with a great V8 rumble from the Flowmaster dual exhaust system, and with a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission, it's easy to drive. The chassis is clean but largely original, so it's not shiny and perfect. On the other hand, it shows off what clean living down south will get you and again, if you want to use your vintage pickup to get some chores done, this one will never complain. Cool Rally-style wheels with black centers and trim rings give it a muscular look, especially with those fat 31x10.50-15 white-letter radials.
