Description : Gateway Classic Cars of St. Louis is proud to present this 1972 DeTomaso Pantera Custom! This vehicle is one of only a handful known to have been 3rd gen Coyote swapped!
Sit back, relax, and take your time to work through the photos and writeup for this one of a kind moving piece of art! A mid-engine sports car produced by the Italians - Ford opted to sell these through their dealer network beginning in 1972. The Pantera was supposed to be the more accessible road going version of GT40 race cars.
The custom wheels, and overall styling of this build pay homage to the GT40 in many subtle details. The one off three-piece ESR wheels are different enough but have their GT40 roots squarely planted. The powerplant is a Ford Motorsport Coyote crate engine with a performance pack option. The factory ZF 5 speed transaxle has had the overdrive ratio tweaked to support effortless and economical highway cruising. Helping handle the Coyote torque and horsepower are custom CV driveshafts. A McLeod clutch and custom Quiktime bellhousing help mate the partnership together.
The interior is a beautifully blue Scottish leather seating with black accents on the doors and black carpeting. If the sound of horsepower isn't enough the Pantera features a Bluetooth audio system, power windows, and functioning power mirrors from a late model GM production vehicle. The wiring was provided by American Autowire highway systems, and the headlights are updated halogen projectors with electric motors powering the pop-up housing. A Vintage Air heating and cooling system is present and functional along with a push to start button and electronic handbrake. The interior also offers auxiliary power for whatever charging needs may arise.
For stopping power Willwood calipers and master cylinder apply manual braking effort and do so smoothly and sharply. The manual brakes help with driver feel and are more than adequate even for daily use if one desired.
For some suspensions goodies there is a custom truss in the engine bay, custom Eibach springs, Koni adjustable shocks. The front suspension also features modified control arms, adjustable caster and camber settings. The Lecarra steering wheel is removable as well.
There appears to be no stone unturned on this build and performance and functionality go hand in hand wherever one looks at this car!
