Dodge Dart GTS 1968

Allmän beskrivning : Ask the average enthusiast to name a compact muscle car and most will inevitably say 'Falcon' or 'Nova'. Ask a MoPar guy that same question and you'll hear a proud recitation of the history of the Dodge Dart. Best known for its tough GTS model, the Dart has proven an excellent platform for building impressive, neck-snapping performers. But big power isn't everything. And in the world of collector cars, most folks want the whole package, as in more power, more style AND more fun. Take this awesome fourth-gen coupe, for example. The product of a detailed, nut-and-bolt restoration, it backs 383 cubic inches of freshly rebuilt big block with retro upholstery, a professionally rebuilt 4-speed, an upgraded suspension and buttery urethane pigment. And if you're a discerning enthusiast who wants big power that's wrapped in head-turning style and poised for years of weekend fun, it's just the 'more' you're looking for!
FEATURED AUTORAMA ALUMNI
First impressions are important, and this traditional Dart certainly makes a strong one. For starters, Dodge did a great job whittling Exner's artistic Forward Look fuselage into a universally appealing profile that directly supports the brand's performance and practicality. That profile, in this case authentic H-code metal, benefitted from a two-year, nut-and-bolt restoration that wrapped in early 2019. That freshening included sophisticated Dodge PE4 red that was sprayed in the form of smooth Deltron CONCEPT DCC Acrylic Urethane single-stage. And the result is one sweet MoPar A-body that, in addition to being a blast to look at, placed fourth in its class at the Detroit Autorama and received a feature in Hot Rod Magazine!
There's just something about a broad-shouldered Dodge that appeals to pretty much everyone. Whether it's 'wow factor', a sense of strength or simple surface detailing, this resto-mod's hard-edged, modernist panels convey classic Chrysler charm via clean and chiseled aesthetics. At the front of the car, a broad bumper frames a black-trimmed grille, which hangs crystal clear parking lamps next to bright halogen headlights. Behind that grille, a louvered hood centers stylish 'GTS' lettering between cool turn indicators. Behind that hood, factory-tint glass reflects factory mirrors, dent-free stainless and high-polish wipers. Tight, fratzog-branded vinyl floats on a clean hull that's decorated with straight wheel lips, ornate markers, factory door handles and elaborate fender badging. Traditional deck stripes look great reflected in a polished fuel cap. And at the back of the car, a second broad bumper frames 'DODGE' branded trunk trim that's acutely aligned with clean taillights and more 'GTS' lettering.
BIG BLOCK 383
Churning big horsepower into easy torque, this Dodge's 383 cubic inch Magnum V8 is both fun and civil. Tailored thrills begin when a traditional, Organisol-coated air cleaner drops wind into a coated Edelbrock 750 carburetor. That choice carb feeds a dual-plane MoPar intake, which charges Magnafluxed 906 heads that are finished with a full array of stainless valves. Those heads, dressed in polished covers and a polished breather, cap a professionally polished crank, which complements a quality Mopar Performance Purple Cam. A double-roller timing set lurks beneath an ////aluminum water pump. A factory-style distributor sequences spark through fresh Chrysler Electronic Suppression cables. A beefy Chrysler radiator keeps things cool thanks to top notch restoration from the experts at Glen-ray. Exhaust duties are handled by traditional, cast iron manifolds. And the car's engine bay is every bit as crisp as its alluring profile.
BUILT TO BE BETTER
When it comes to the bottom of this Dart, the idea was simple: better driving performance. The upgrades begin with a proven A833 4-speed that was sourced from the pros at Brewer's Performance. That 23-spline gearbox uses a tough McLeod clutch to twist a dressed Moser Dana 60 that's stuffed with a Detroit Truetrac differential and fun, 3.54 gears. That axle pushes a modified rear-clip, which strings aluminum Fox shocks between Hotchkis 2-inch lowering springs. Opposite that clip, an equally massaged front-half hangs Hotchkis tie rods, QA-1 control arms and two more aluminum Fox shocks behind a Hotchkis sway bar and 2-inch Magnum Force drop spindles. Turns comes courtesy of Borgeson power steering. Stops are provided by red Wilwood calipers, which milk a modern Wilwood master cylinder to squeeze a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors. Exhaust rolls through big pipes, throaty mufflers and polished stainless tips. And momentum comes courtesy of painted and capped steelies, which wear 215/70R14 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radials in front of 235/60R15 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radials.
BUILT TO BE TIMELESS
Open the doors and a traditional vinyl cockpit proves that modern doesn't always mean better. The first thing you'll notice is factory seating, which frames a factory console that's fashioned around a small tach and an angled shifter. In front of that stick, a tasteful dash hangs factory telemetry next to an old school Dart Solid State radio. Fade-free GTS side panels look great between fresh carpet and glossy door toppers. And the driver spins a requisite Chrysler Rallye Wheel.
Traditionally handsome and plenty fast, this awesome Dart should make every enthusiast smile. With the potential to scorch any stoplight, and top-notch craftsmanship that's good enough to land big trophies, it's ready to blister the blacktop and stop the show! We've built quite a following in the Chrysler community, which means red-hot MoPars tend to sell as soon as they hit our website. How fast is your reaction time?
