Ferrari Dino 246 246 GT M Series, extensive history 1970

Allmän beskrivning : Although to be frank the Dino 246 GT does not need any introduction, I am happy to quickly refresh your memory. The Dino was named after Enzo’s son who had died too early and was Ferrari’s answer to the sales success of the Porsche 911. Initially introduced as the Dino 206 GT it later became the Dino 246 GT shown here. Our Dino is number 47 out of 497 M-series cars, aka the second series. The M-series was an improved version of the original 246 GT which concentrated on boosting the car’s road handling capabilities. The car has remained in very good shape since it was newly supplied on the 7th July 1970 by the Belgian Francorchamps Ferrari dealership. In the ’80s the car was professionally restored with a keen eye to original detail. We have the complete maintenance history from 1997 onwards. At the time she had a re-spray in the original “Rosso Corsa” finish. The paintwork has remained in great condition with only minor signs of use. The bodywork similarly has some minor blemishes. All the panelwork is beautifully thin and correctly aligned. The interior trim is exceptionally authentic with lovely red woollen carpets, black vinyl seats and white perforated headlining. The top of the dashboard is also in a good state of maintenance with all counters and controls in superb original condition. The Dino has headlight covers and is mechanically very sound. The 2.4-litre 65-degree V6 engine is according to connoisseurs one of the best V6 engines ever made. The car’s documentation shows that since 1997 the previous owners have invested over €50,000.- in maintaining this fine Dino 246 GT. When sold in 1997 it had done 27,000 km. In the following 23 years, the next two owners only managed to double the mileage to 55,319 km. From the moment you drive away you really notice that this car has been used regularly. The car is lovely to. drive and has fantastic road-holding. In addition to all of the above, there is an abundance of documentation including invoices that substantiate the low mileage and good maintenance. The car rightly deserves the title of being in a fine used condition. This is not your standard restored “show horse” but a wonderful used and very authentic Dino 246 GT, just begging to be driven. Den första Ferrari väg bil var de 125 S introducerades 1947 och drivs av en 1,5 L V12 motor, eller hur?
Tja det är inte riktigt så enkelt, Ferrari faktiskt producerar e Tipo 815, 1940 Tipo 815 ritades av ex-Alfa Romeo ingenjörer Alberto Massimino och Vittorio Bellentani och Enrico Nardi enligt Enzo sällskap men juridiska frågor med det tidigare intresse Alfa Romeo hindrade Ferrari från att lansera Ferrari marque vid den punkten.

Enzo fick fram en rad fina väg bilar på 50-talet och 60-talet, men de var bara för att finansiera sin passion racing, väder GT / Sportbil eller Grand Prix. 50-talet såg födelsen av Ferraris mest minnesvärda bilar, 250 GTB (tour de France) 250 Testa Rossa, 250 GT SWB bara för att nämna några.

Under ytspänningen växte dock. I November 1961 erfaren försäljningschef Girolamo Gardini gjorde ett ultimatum till Enzo: om spänningar fortsatte skulle han lämna företaget. Som ett resultat var Gardini avsattes, liksom Scuderia Ferrari manager Romolo Tavoni, överingenjör Carlo Chiti, experimentell sportbil utveckling chief Giotto Bizzarrini, och ett antal andra, som stod vid dem.
Utan Chiti och Bizzarrini utvecklingen av vad som skulle bli den mest kvintessensen Ferrari och idag världens dyraste bil, 250 GTO, var vid en svängpunkt. 250 GTO projekt räddades av en ung ingenjör Mauro Forghieri och lång tid racing bodyman Sergio Scaglietti som klev in och tog över programmet med kända resultat.

I slutet av 60-talet Ferraris prototyper framgång fick ett abrupt stopp av en ny konkurrent, GT40. Ford vände sig till Lola för att producera en Ferrari slog långdistans racer efter Enzo hade klippt affären av med Henry Ford II gör det senare absolut koka av vrede. Samarbetet mellan Ford och Lola skapade den mäktiga Ford GT40 som gav Ferrari några tunga hits i Le Mans 24 framöver.
I slutet av 60-talet FIAT köpte 50% av bolaget, med start en utveckling som har lett till en ny massproducerade era av Ferraris.
