Ford Mustang 1967

Allmän beskrivning : There are show cars that look good, and then there are show cars like this custom-engineered 1967 Mustang fastback that are wicked manifestations of vintage aesthetics and modern technology. As a previous concours judge and lifetime Mustang enthusiast, George Huisman, founder of Classic Design Concepts, created a line of turnkey Mustangs that are built from the ground up to provide a perfect blend of old school Motown style and new school SoCal comfort. This razor-sharp coupe, Flashback number 001, is the very first of those Mustangs; and was at one time both Huisman's personal car and CDC's premier press and show mule. When it debuted at the SEMA show, the car easily walked away with Ford Best in Show and Outstanding Achievement in Design and was prominently featured in numerous print and digital publications which included a cover spread in Hot Rod magazine. If you're looking for a mind-blowing pro-tourer that's every bit as impressive as it is unique, this take-no-prisoners pony car is your hot ticket! FIRST CLASS FLASHBACK The foundation for Flashback 001's build is an all-steel body that displays tight fit and finish, super smooth surfaces and laser-straight style lines. As the industry's number one manufacturer of replacement body shells, Dynacorn utilizes a rigorous process that forms 1006 universal automotive grade steel into thicker-than-factory body panels that are eventually bonded together via increased CO2 welding techniques and thoroughly dipped in a custom galvanizing solution. Once Flashback's top-notch body had been hand-altered by the folks at CDC, a dynamic coat of custom Sherwin-Williams Pearl Blue metal flake was expertly applied under Champagne racing stripes and a glossy clearcoat shell. And the result is one lust-worthy award-winner which oozes cool, looks absolutely evil and has enough aesthetic appeal to start its own parade! When we say CDC massaged and altered this Mustang, we're not hyping repositioned trim, cheesy tape stripes and a few crude fiberglass cooling ducts. We're talking about an OEM-quality build that features modified fascias, a tastefully altered profile and enough 21st century lighting tweaks to make Best Buy's Geek Squad fall out of their Beetle. At the front of the car, a prominent mesh grille hangs a 'Powered by Ford' emblem between modern headlights that are seated in custom headlight buckets. Beneath that grille, a super slick valence sports large, aerodynamic fog lights, which mimic the shape of attractive, functional cooling ducts. A custom, fiberglass hood features billet heat extractors that are complete with LED turn indicators. At the back of that hood, chip-free glass, smoked on all surfaces but the windshield, floats amid bright wipers, dent-free trim and polished drip rails. At the base of that glass, traditional door handles, functional side scoops and '5.4 LITRE SUPERCHARGED' fender emblems ride between body-matched mirrors, scalloped C-pillars and LED marker lamps. And at the back of the car, a fiberglass decklid hangs a low-profile bikini spoiler above a custom, 'CDC' branded fuel filler, LED taillights that feature completely integrated reverse lamps, and a sculpted rear valence that wraps around four stainless exhaust tips. FORD RACING POWER Naturally, this Ford looks great, but its biggest selling point is the supercharged, 5.4 liter ground pounder that rumbles right under its lightweight hood. Cranking out roughly 600 horsepower, Ford Racing's revolutionary modular V8 was influenced heavily by the firm's first GT super car. Utilizing an iron block, a forged crank, forged rods, forged pistons, aluminum heads and dual overhead cams, the smooth mill makes great muscle car sounds while providing surprising efficiency and a docile nature. Twist the key and the pedigreed V8 rumbles to life, sending baritone notes down 2.5-inch exhaust that features Ford Racing headers. Punch the throttle and an Eaton M122 supercharger zings the engine toward redline. Jump out on the open road and a high capacity cooling system ensures hour after hour of spirited reliability. And, aesthetically, the car's professionally finished engine bay is very clean. IT GOES AS WELL AS IT SHOWS All too often classic cars, especially show classics, are geared more toward aesthetics than performance. It's kind of like walking into a chop shop, staring at a rib-eye steak and then realizing a clever butcher sold you sirloin. Sure, the product still looks mouth-watering, but it's just not too satisfying. Because this Mustang is actually a functional road warrior, as opposed to a ropes-and-red-carpet display piece, CDC made sure it had plenty of flavor and spice via a custom, curve-carving undercarriage. At the front of the car, Hotchkis struts and control arms join adjustable Strange coil-overs and Flaming River power rack-and-pinion steering. And at the back of the car, you'll find a custom, 4-link suspension that's been finished with quality QA-1 coil-overs. Behind the modern V8, a smooth Ford 4R70W Automatic Overdrive transmission spins power to a Moser 9-inch rear end that's fitted with tall, 3.70 gears and 4-pinion Trac Loc 31-spline axles. And at the sides of the engine, large-diameter, Mandrel-bent pipes send spent gases through an H-shaped crossover and aggressive dual-chamber mufflers. Multi-piston Wilwood binders clamp drilled and slotted rotors to provide serious resistance for the serious motor. And power gets put to the pavement by a quartet of 18-inch Forgeline wheels, which spin 245/40 front and 275/35 rear Dunlop Direzzas around Champagne colored spokes. MODULAR IN MORE THAN JUST MOTOR One of the major selling points of the Flashback series was CDC's thoughtfully redesigned and thoroughly modernized interior. And we're not talking about some guy with a sewing machine either. This keyless-entry-equipped cockpit is a 100% complete, modular installation which provides the fit and reliability of a major OEM manufacturer. The seats are power units that wear black leather covers, tan threads, tan center sections and two-piece lap belts. At the front of the car, a leather-capped dual-cowl dash, which features the same tan stitching as the aforementioned seats, hangs a Bongiovi-tuned JVC CD player amid custom Classic Instruments telemetry. At the center of the car, a custom console anchors a polished shifter between a numbered plaque, controls for Vintage Air conditioning and switches for power windows. At the sides of the car, detailed door panels hang tan accent trim above stitched armrests, flush-fit power door lock buttons and clean stainless trim. At the floor, like-new carpet is stretched tight under color-matched mats, Rockford Fosgate kick speakers and Rockford Fosgate quarter speakers. In front of the driver, a speed-drilled steering wheel laps a tilting Flaming River column. And behind the cockpit, a custom-upholstered trunk hides a Rockford Fosgate amp and a Rockford Fosgate subwoofer. There's no question this is a very special car, and that its existence moved the bar for OEM-quality customs. If you're the sort of person who wants to own only the best, and understands that quality doesn't compromise, then you're already familiar with what this Ford has to offer. Fun to look at, fun to drive, and fun to show, it's a cool classic that will continue to stand the test of time thanks to smart design and immaculate craftsmanship. Buy it today, and in 20 years, you'll still be drawing crowds! ----------
