Smart Money Buys

We bet you have heard of an older gent who missed a vintage Ferrari or Speedster back in the 70’s when you could have picked up one for a song. The story remains pretty much the same; only the makes and names change depending on who’s telling it. In the most extreme version, the guy turned down a 250 GTO in favour of a reasonable new family sedan because his wife thought it made more sense.

Now, you can’t turn back time and no car is likely to gain the monetary value of GTO, but that is not to say there aren’t relatively modern cars out there that are worth keeping an eye on in case you do not plan to become the above mentioned chap.

A plain old car can turn into a desirable classic for a number of reasons, but there’s a single thing driving values like there’s no tomorrow –Racing, better yet racing back then and now in today's historic racing scene. Just take a look what has happened to early 911s.

So, to complete the task you would need to find a car that has racing pedigree, has not really entered the historic racing scene as yet, and is currently dirt cheap. Surely, such a car cannot exist can it?

We claim such cars do exist.

Here's our first contender: Mercedes-Benz 190 2.3-16 / 2.5-16
