Chevrolet Camaro ZZ454 1969

General description : We aren't sure what's more important, correctly describing this SEMA-featured Camaro or correctly labeling it. Is it a muscle car? Maybe a custom? Could it be a street rod? Or is it a legitimate, one-of-a-kind concept car? One thing's for sure: whatever you choose to call it, the car is certainly awesome. Very, very impressive… Outstanding, even! Anyway, we'll worry about semantics after we tell you about this attention-grabbing Chevy.
Wrapping custom Glasurit paint and slick Downs composite around an Art Morrison chassis, a Tremec transmission and Chevrolet Performance power, this award-winning coupe is a world-class tribute to quality and creativity. And if you're looking for a top-notch classic that offers more than simple nostalgia and vintage aesthetics, it's the red carpet show queen of your wildest dreams!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Designed in harmony with Stuban Concepts, Eric Brockmeyer Design and Greening Auto Company, this stunning dream rod is the product of $600,000, 12,000 hours of labor and five years of shop time. The car's highly customized body, quality composite provided by Downs Industries, wears a custom mix of BASF Glasurit 2-stage that's officially referred to as Root Beer. Show stopping details begin with a custom fascia that founds HID headlights, LED daytime running lamps and halogen driving lamps between a gold frame, honeycomb grilles and a polished divider bar. Above those grilles, a ZL2 hood centers gold-lined ram air induction in front of a sculpted cowl and flush-fit glass that's capped by a custom Lexan roof. At the sides of that glass, a massaged profile hangs polished marker lamps and polished door handles above gold-trimmed quarter vents. At the back of that profile, a power decklid frames a pocketed spoiler. And beneath that spoiler, a second custom valance seats LED taillights and a second polished divider above a big diffuser that's finished with gold-trimmed exhaust.
ENGINE
Capping 454 cubic inches of octane-laced displacement with a custom, color-keyed shroud, the Chevrolet Performance ZZ454 rumbling between this Camaro's clean fenders is a timeless testament to the bowtie division's enduring big block. The foundation for that will is an iron casting that's capped with an aluminum intake and oval-port aluminum heads that feature 110cc combustion chambers. That high-flow top end feeds a forged rotating assembly that's built with a steel crank, steel rods and aluminum pistons. A high-lift roller cam bumps stamped steel rockers to turn 9.6 to 1 compression into a solid 440 horsepower. Of course, that number was probably upped a bit when the car's builders decided to add ram air induction and trick tri-power carburetion. Exhaust rattles through heat wrapped manifolds. And everything stays cool thanks to a big aluminum radiator and dual electric puller fans.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Behind the mean motor, a Tremec TKO600 5-speed twists torque to a Ford 9-inch axle. That driveline rides a full Art Morrison chassis, which is strung across a 4-link rear-clip and fifth-generation Corvette front-half. Those bones turn with the help of power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering. Stopping is a cinch thanks to big Wilwood calipers, which squeeze a quartet of slotted rotors. Exhaust is handled by large-diameter, true-dual pipes, which snake through glasspack-style mufflers. And at the corners of the car, custom Greening Automotive wheels spin 245/35ZR19 Pirelli P Zeros in front of 315/35ZR20 Pirelli P Zero Rossos.
INTERIOR
Pop the car's doors and you'll find an attractive, well-rounded interior that was installed by Steve Holcomb of Knoxville Tennessee's Pro Auto Custom Interiors. Firm bucket seats feature tight leather covers. In front of those seats, a custom dash hangs custom Classic Instruments telemetry next to Alpine audio and buttons for the car's power windows. Below that dash, a custom, full-length console balances a leather-wrapped shifter behind knobs for modern climate control. And in front of the driver, a custom, leather-wrapped steering wheel laps a tilting column.
