LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
As if Chevrolet Division’s wildly popular Camaro wasn’t successful enough, the company opted to further quantify the car’s already-impressive performance reputation by entering it in the premiere showcase for pony cars: the SCCA Trans Am Series—hence the moniker Z28. If there ever was a factory Hot Rod in the Camaro product line, the Z28 was it. When placed in the hands of teams like Penske Racing, Chaparral Racing and Alan Green Chevrolet Racing, the Z28 performed flawlessly enough for the late great Mark Donohue to annex back-to-back SCCA Trans Am Championships in 1968 and 1969 behind the wheel of Penske’s Sunoco Camaros. Chevrolet Division now had the small-block factory Hot Rod they were looking for and the orders started pouring in.
This beautiful Camaro Z28 was built at the Los Angeles, California assembly plant and then delivered to the dealer Central Chevrolet Co. in Fremont, California. Its original owner Anthony Andrade ordered his new Z28 in the stunning shade of Ash Gold with Black vinyl trim and a host of other options. Powering this legendary Camaro is the numbers matching 302ci/290hp engine fed air through the cowl plenum induction and backed by a numbers matching close ratio M21 4-speed transmission. As per window sticker, it also came with the following options including power disc brakes, am radio, center console, tinted windshield, spec instruments, spec interior group, style trim group and posi traction with 4.10 rear end.
It benefited from a complete rotisserie restoration by a marque specialist to concours standards. The subframe and rear end were removed from the body to begin the process of stripping down to bare metal. The body was primed and block sanded to ensure a show quality paint finish. The engine bay and undercarriage were finished in the correct sheen of semi-gloss black paint. The drivetrain was completely rebuilt back to factory spec and refinished. Today the car presents better than it ever did leaving the factory.
Documentation is largely important to authenticate any collector car and this Z/28 comes with its window sticker, owner’s manual, Protect-O-Plate, original keys, photos of the restoration, some of the owner’s original California registration documents and even some speeding tickets!
This 1968 Camaro Z28 is a very well restored example complete with numbers matching engine and original documentation making it the perfect addition to any F-Body enthusiasts’ collection!
