Fiat 126 Bis 1991

General description : Equipment

Bianco paintwork, Striped cloth upholstery, 4-speed manual transmission, 13-inch steel wheels, Fiat wheel covers, Two-spoke steering wheel, Head restraints, Front and rear seat belts, Full size spare wheel.

Exterior

With its crisp Bianco paintwork and immaculate exterior trim this surely unrepeatable 126 Bis looks every bit the low mileage of just 9k. Having always been carefully dry stored the car is extremely well preserved and highly original throughout. The paintwork maintains a deep, even shine and the bumpers are free from any unsightly scuffs or scrapes. The lights are perfectly clear, the badges are in first-rate condition, and the glass is all still etched with the car’s registration number. One or two light frontal stone chips and a couple of carefully touched-in marks on the rear hatch further evidence the car’s honesty.

Interior

Although small, the lightly appointed cabin is a bright and pleasant place to be. In keeping with the exterior everything appears lovely and original, from the seat fabric to the carpets and dash. The car has never been fitted with an aftermarket radio and so pleasingly there are no speaker holes in the door cards or parcel shelf. What little switchgear there is still feels reassuringly solid to operate, and everything works just as it should. Commonly worn items such as the steering wheel and gear knob both present without fault, the only real negative to report being some light discolouration to the otherwise flawless upholstery.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

Lifting the rear hatch reveals a very clean and tidy engine bay with no signs of any damage or previous poor repair, just as you’d expect for the mileage. The water-cooled two-cylinder 704cc engine presents very well indeed, and while its power output is limited at 26hp the car is still very much a joy to drive. A full mechanical health check and underside inspection at the current mileage have just been carried out for the new keeper’s peace of mind.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The 126 sits on the correct 13-inch steels fitted with unmarked Fiat wheel covers. They are shod in matching set of Firestone Multihawk tyres all with at least 6mm of tread left. The brakes have also been checked and remain in fine operational condition.

History File

Originally supplied in November 1991 this UK right-hand drive 126 ‘Bis’ has quite remarkably driven only 9,332 miles from new. With most of the miles covered in the first few years of its life, the car has since resided within a number of enthusiast collections where it has clearly been garaged and only exercised lightly to preserve its amazing condition. The result of such a pampered lifestyle is what you see here, a best of breed example in outstanding unrestored condition.

The accompanying History File comprises the original Fiat document wallet and owner’s manuals, a selection of invoices and MOT certificates, a clean HPI report, and the current V5C registration document. With 10 former keepers it’s by no means a low owner car but there is absolutely no doubting the quality or honesty of this particular example – a real collector’s piece!

About Fiat
Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino (FIAT to you and I) was founded by Giovanni Agnelli in 1899. Their first car 3 ½ CV had a strong resembledence to contemporary Benz, only 25 examples were built. By 1910 Fiat had established itself as Italia's biggest car manufacturer and expanded to the US, where a new plant was built in Poughkeepsie, NY.

At that time Fiat cars were big and luxurious barges for the wealthy or barking mad racing cars like S76 , The beast of Turin, with its 290HP 28.5-liter, four-cylinder engine.

However, today Fiat is better reknown for its small symphatic peoples carriers, Topolino, 500 "Cinquecento" and 600.

What ever your favorite Fiat is, you'll find it for sale here at www.classicdigest.com
