Description : Distinct, intimidating, and genuinely rugged, this 1988 Land Rover Defender 90 is the ideal 4x4 to take you on a safari as early as tomorrow. But it is also such a looker, that we know you will enjoy it in-town, too.
The Defender 90 follows the grand tradition of tough-as-nails Land Rovers, and you recognize it from the moment this one comes into view. It looks ready to take on the toughest terrain with the steel plated fenders and hood, tubular side steps, huge mud flaps, and tall 4x4 stance. And the rear hitch means you can tow the toys with you wherever you go. But even with all this tough off-road prowess, Land Rover gives you a reminder of its premium side, too. So, this one might be able to take you beyond the rail, but it also knows how to turn heads when rolling through downtown.
The Defender 90 might have a timeless appeal, but it has been one of the most recent chapters in Land Rover's globetrotting book. So, you get the traditional robustness with some of the new upgrades. And you can really see that inside. First starting off with the leather seats. According to the owner of this beauty the seats were custom fabricated from upholstery shop in Italy before the car was shipped to the US. An all-new radio head unit has been added, which includes a backup camara and Apple Car play on displayed on an 8 inch screen.
Another great reason to have a Land Rover built for a foreign country is under the hood. We were never offered diesel power with the Defenders that were sold in the USA, and we all know diesel provides plenty of torque to get you through Mother Nature. So, it is great to see a 2.5-liter fuel-injected inline 4 under the hood. This is not the original engine that came in this as the owner decided to have Osprey customs out of Wilmington North Carolina swap out the original engine and place a new land Rover 300TDI. When doing the engine swap other work completed but not limited to; all new LED lighting, new AC unit, new brakes both front and back, new steering bushings, and dampers. All this work was completed in 2022 and the seller has all the receipts to prove it. The five-speed manual transmission gives you full control over the diesel power. Plus, the high ground clearance, the two-speed transfer case, and BFGoodrich KO2 265/75/R16 tires assures that you can keep going even when the trail ends. Sound deadening has been added through the whole vehicle to give you much more of a quite ride when cruising the highway. This is the legendary 4x4 that has both style AND substance. So, if you want to go everywhere and look great doing it, call today!

About Land Rover
The rugged tale of Land Rover, born from the spirit of exploration and inspired by the legendary Jeep. Let's embark on a journey through the history of Land Rover, tracing its evolution and the iconic models that have conquered both off-road terrain and urban landscapes.

Act 1: The Birth of Land Rover (1948)
In the aftermath of World War II, Rover saw the need for a versatile, go-anywhere vehicle that could handle the demands of post-war life. Drawing inspiration from the Jeep, Maurice Wilks, Rover's chief designer, and his brother Spencer, Rover's managing director, conceptualized the first Land Rover. Launched in 1948 at the Amsterdam Motor Show, the Series I Land Rover was an instant hit, boasting simplicity, durability, and unparalleled off-road capabilities.

Act 2: Series Land Rovers (1950s-1970s)
The Series Land Rovers became the backbone of Land Rover's lineup. The Series II in 1958 and Series III in 1971 refined the design and introduced more creature comforts, while preserving the brand's commitment to off-road prowess. These models were workhorses on farms, military deployments, and adventurous expeditions.

Act 3: Range Rover (1970)
In 1970, Land Rover expanded its horizons with the introduction of the Range Rover. Combining luxury with off-road capabilities, the Range Rover defined a new segment of high-end, go-anywhere vehicles. Its success marked the beginning of Land Rover's transition from utilitarian workhorses to premium off-road vehicles.

Act 4: Discovery and Defender (1980s-1990s)
The 1989 launch of the Land Rover Discovery marked the brand's foray into family-oriented SUVs, blending off-road prowess with on-road comfort. Meanwhile, the iconic Land Rover Defender, the spiritual successor to the original Series Land Rovers, continued to capture the hearts of enthusiasts with its rugged design and unyielding capabilities.
