Porsche 911 / 964 964 Speedster 1994

General description : The Porsche 911 964 Speedster was the third iteration of the 'Speedster' name, succeeding the 1989 Carrera Speedster and the famous 356 Speedster of the 1950s. The third Speedster came in 1992 and was a Cabriolet model based upon the restyled and contemporary Type 964 of the era.The 964 was a far more focused driver's car than its predecessor, serving as a hybrid of the 964 Carrera 2 Cabriolet and a 964 RS. The Speedster was powered by an uprated 3.6 litre air cooled flat-six engine capable of delivering just shy of 250 bhp to the rear wheels through a choice of either a five-speed manual or four-speed Tiptronic transmission.Just under 1,000 964 Speedsters were produced during the short 2 year production run, with 469 of those destined for North American distribution. The car we are presenting is the much more desirable five-speed manual transmission and was delivered new to the USA in 1994 via Porsche Cars North America. It was later purchased by prolific British IndyCar Champion, Dario Franchitti in 2010 who kept and used the car in America until 2014 when he had it imported to the U.K to his home in Scotland where he continued to enjoy it to the present date. The car sits today in brilliant condition, wearing its original Guards Red paintwork and showing under 20,000 miles on the clock. It maintains its original marketing brochure, spare key, and a healthy history file detailing the work undertaken on the car during its lifetime as well as a Certificate of Authenticity and a copy of the original sales invoice! The 964 Speedster is truly a worthy addition to any Porsche collection and is the perfect car to enjoy open-top motoring during the summer months!

About Porsche 911 / 964
The Porsche 964 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 models produced between 1989 and 1994. It was the successor to the Porsche 3.2 Carrera and was designed to be a more refined and modern version of the classic Porsche 911.

One of the major changes in the 964 was the introduction of an all-wheel-drive system, called the Carrera 4. The 964 was also the first Porsche 911 to feature power steering, anti-lock brakes, and an airbag as standard equipment. In addition, the suspension was updated to provide a smoother ride and better handling.

The 964 was powered by a range of engines, including a 3.3-liter turbocharged flat-six, a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated flat-six, and a 3.6-liter turbocharged flat-six. The top-of-the-line 964 Turbo S was capable of producing 385 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the fastest production cars of its time.

Today, the Porsche 964 is considered a classic sports car and is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. While it may not have the same level of performance as some of the newer Porsche 911 models, the 964 is still a thrilling car to drive and offers a unique driving experience that is difficult to replicate with modern cars.

As a hobbyist car, the Porsche 964 is popular among collectors and enthusiasts who enjoy working on and restoring classic cars. Its relatively simple design and mechanics make it a good choice for those who are interested in learning about automotive restoration and maintenance.

Overall, the Porsche 964 is an important part of Porsche's history and remains a beloved car among automotive enthusiasts around the world. Its unique combination of classic styling, modern features, and high performance capabilities make it a true icon of the Porsche brand.
