The bold purple paint instantly tells you that this is no factory truck. But this 1953 Chevrolet 3100 5 Window Restomod impresses with far more than just its paint. The triple-deuce stroker V8, upgraded suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and leather-lined A/C interior are all there to prove to you that this one was done with quality, proficiency, and power over every inch.
Shimirn 2 Purple is the name of the paint that grabs all your attention. It's from the masters at House of Kolor, and so you know they make finishes that love to radiate in the sunlight. While the color is modern and vibrant, it also does a fantastic job of highlighting the iconic curves of nearly 70-year-old sheetmetal. And this Chevy celebrates its classic heritage in distinct ways. For example, the iconic five bar grille is still there, and it even has the correct white paint behind the slats. It's just a little tougher to notice, because the chrome really shines like mirrors. And there's a smooth color-matched locking tonneau over the bed. But when you open it up, there's still real wood used for the floor (it's just now a premium and beautiful maple.) Of course, the iron cross headlights, lowered stance, and 17-inch American Racing Hopster wheels are purely upgraded pieces to remind you that this restomod has a ton of attitude.
The desirable five-window cab means it lets in more light to show off this full custom setup. It starts with dual bucket seats with a supple leather and enough bolstering for all-day comfort. The tasteful mix of black and gray on the upholstery also continues in the door panels, rear panel, and carpeting for a thoughtful overall look. You get features on this classic 3100 pickup that you'd want on a brand new truck, like a cup holder center console and sliding rear glass. And many of the upgrades are integrated with care. The power windows are operated by the classic-style cranks; the air conditioning system is cleanly mounted below the dash; and while the classic AM radio is on display, your real driving music comes from an AM/FM/CD stereo with Bluetooth. There's even an upgraded gauge package w/tach, long shifter with skull shift knob, and a cool sports steering wheel with a design that fits the wheels and lights on the exterior.
There are two reasons to show off this engine bay. First, it has sleek inner walls and the components have an awesome shine. Second, those three air grabbers are the instant sign of a triple-deuce setup. And while we love the three dual-barrel Holley carbs on top, there's a ton more to this motor. It's a 383 cubic-inch stroker V8 with a four-bolt main. It's enhanced and fortified with a Scat crank, ICON pistons (9.1:1 compression), Edelbrock RPM performer heads, ARP valve springs, Comp Cams hydraulic lifters, roller cam, and Melling timing chain. It's supported by the right pieces, including a March serpentine pulley system, steel braided lines, an Optima red top battery, and an aluminum radiator. It fires up with an awesome sound as ceramic-coated headers feed the H-pipe dual exhaust. And don't just listen to this truck's rumble; follow the pipes in the undercarriage photos. There you'll see this sits on a later C10 frame that has been customized with stronger boxed front and rear sections. The front end is a tubular A-arm setup from Scotts Hotrods, and the rear is a No Limit Engineering four-link. You'll also spot adjustable coilovers, newer bushings, and sway bars front & rear. The TH400 three-speed automatic transmission is the ideal balance of stout and smooth, and this feeds a 12-bolt Positraction rear end. It makes for a great all-around driving package that also includes power steering and four-wheel power disc brakes with drilled & slotted rotors.
