When you think about the perfect classic muscle car, what usually comes to mind? Is it the one that steals the show with a terrific appearance, and then steals your heart on the drive home with its all-out power? That's what gets us excited about this 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu. Let's start with the paint that's instantly grabbing your attention. From a distance it might just look like a basic black. But then as it draws you in, you see something truly unique. There is a set of matte SS stripes breaking up the gloss, and the result is a car that has a modern touch better than just about any other classic you've ever seen. But the investment in this coupe goes much deeper than the paint. The super-straight sheetmetal, mirror-like chrome, and iconic 14-inch Cragar SS wheels make it a cut-above muscle car.
When you open the door, you soon realize that the exterior colors were also a preview for the interior. This might have been Chevy's midsize offering, but there is plenty of room and seatbelts for up to five people. Everyone can stay comfortable with features like the modern AM/FM/CD stereo and provisions for R134a air conditioning. But no matter how many family and friends come for the ride, you'll always have the individual comfort of buckets seats. And the upgrades exclusively for the driver don't end there. You get a three-spoke steering wheel that gives you a clear view of the factory gauge package. Plus, your right hand will love the B&M ratchet shifter. If that wasn't enough of an indication of something special under the hood, the auxiliary gauge package and pillar-mounted tach should clue you in as well.
The first thing you'll notice when you open the hood is the orange block, chrome valve covers, and aluminum intake stand out in the dark engine bay. But when you look beyond the style, you'll see the substance of a GM 350 cubic-inch crate motor with less than 400 miles on it since installation. And you'll be quite happy to know that this restoration was done right with the helpd of an ASE certified technician. This new crate motor is already great for power, and it has also been upgraded with a four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake, and long tube headers that feed the rumbling H-pipe Flowmaster dual exhaust. Plus, the three-speed automatic transmission is a stout TCI TH350 that has run for less than 2,000 miles. Add in power steering and power brakes, and this is the kind of Chevelle you'll be proud to own AND drive.
