FINE FORMAL FLASH
The product of a detailed, ground-up restoration that mixes massive show with massive go, this exquisite Impala resto-mod is a tastefully custom take on classic Americana. Epic reflections manifest through super straight metal that wears a super deep coat of timeless Tuxedo Black two-stage. And today, this sinister Chevy prowls the pavement as pretty much the ultimate expression of sophisticated street rod style!
A sculpted testament to why, in the eyes of the enlightened, autos will always be considered art, this hardtop is one of the best looking cars to ever roll out of General Motors Design's Warren Technical Center. At the front of the car, a broad stainless grille hangs a classy Chevrolet crest between a ridged bumper, clear parking lamps and old school halogen headlights. Above that grille, strategic 'C H E V R O L E T' lettering leads a legendary 'bubble top' greenhouse that bends flashy trim between polished wipers, factory door handles and bowtie-branded mirrors. Those mirrors reflect jet-inspired profile spears, which fly ornate Impala branding between polished fins and stainless louvers. And, opposite those louvers, angled antennas shade a broad bumper, bold deck badging and a bright tail panel that's dotted with rocket-inspired lights.
W FOR THE WIN!
Chevrolet's legendary and highly exclusive W-block big blocks have always been a staple of working-class luxury. But what made these engines so special to racers was their impressive ability to make big torque, especially when they were enhanced with a few choice mods! Lift this Impala's long hood and you'll find 348 cubic inches of Turbo Thrust V8 that's been finished with an aluminum intake, aluminum heads and eight barrels of Edelbrock carburetor. That familiar dual-quad setup floats a billet air cleaner over an electric choke, a series of stainless lines and a coated Edelbrock fuel pump. That Edelbrock intake flies a polished oil filler in front of a billet water neck, a small K&N breather and a hot MSD Pro-Billet distributor. And those lightweight heads, sourced from Lamar Walden Automotive, tilt Chevrolet-themed valve covers over loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires, which work especially well with an MSD Blaster 2 coil. A serious March serpentine system spins an Edelbrock water pump between a polished alternator, a polished AC compressor and a polished power steering pump. Cooling is provided by a beefy Northern radiator, which aligns quick Perma-Cool puller fans between a polished support, a polished overflow and a trick Be Cool cap. Spent gases get whisked away by coated Tri-Y Headers. The buff motor rumbles in a smooth and glossy engine bay that leads billet Eddie Motorsports hinges with an insulated hood. And naturally, that clean frame highlights a sea of first rate hardware that includes braided lines, a trick dipstick and a polished master cylinder.
ENJOY THE DRIVE
Not surprisingly, the bottom of this show worthy bowtie continues the theme of pairing proven hardware with enhanced technology. Glossy Tuxedo Black floors create a picturesque backdrop for a glossy Tuxedo Black rendition of GM's legendary X-frame chassis. That chassis gets pushed by a factory rear-clip that's finished with a beefy sway bar and adjustable air bags. Opposite that clip, a factory front-half cages two more adjustable bags between McGaughy's shocks and tubular control arms. The bright red engine leads a bright red Saginaw 4-speed, which spins a factory Dropout axle that's built with easy, 3.08 gears. Turns come courtesy of power rack-and-pinion steering. Speed gets scrubbed by reliable Hydratech hydroboost, which clamps multi-piston Wilwood calipers around a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors. Aluminized exhaust feeds rowdy Flowmaster mufflers. And all that hardware rolls on a sweet set of polished Raceline blades, which spin 255/35ZR20 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 285/35R22 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs.
CRAVE THE RIDE
Between the doors, a thoughtfully customized cockpit manifests as a supple sea of tasteful leather that's enhanced by classic Chevrolet style. Those choice digs revolve around a duo of bench seats that use strategic accents to emphasize the car's wide and authoritative stature. Those leather-wrapped thrones ride clean red carpet that's dotted with a short Hurst shifter. A streamlined dash stretches Classic Instruments All American telemetry between a traditional radio, a subtle AutoMeter temp gauge and controls for modern air conditioning. A contrasted headliner compliments customized side panels. The driver spins a reduced-diameter steering wheel around a cool MQQN Knee Knocker tach. And the car's custom-upholstered trunk hides an air tank, an air compressor and an Optima gel cell battery.
So there you have it: an incredible looking Chevy that wraps an incredible drivetrain in a capable chassis and a comfortable interior. Seldom do you find a well-done 'big fin' classic that's infused with this much street rod swagger. Think about it: 348 cubic inches of hotted up big block, a row-it-yourself transmission, a bagged chassis and plenty of outstanding visual sizzle.
