Description : Gateway Classic Cars Houston showroom is pleased to present this 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe. The Chevrolet Monte Carlo is a two-door coupe that was manufactured and marketed by the Chevrolet division of General Motors. The Monte Carlo was marketed as the first "personal luxury car" of the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1970 model year, the model line was produced across six generations through the 2007 model year, with a hiatus from 1989-1994. The Monte Carlo was a closely aligned variant of the Pontiac Grand Prix through its entire production. For 1986, there were four distinct body styles available. The base model Sport Coupe was still available with the same general body panels that it had since 1981 but featured new "aero" side mirrors similar to those on Camaros and Chevrolet Corvette of the 1980s. Also new this year was the Aero Coupe model. The Aero Coupe was created by modifications to the Super Sport body, including a more deeply sloped rear window and a shorter trunk lid sporting a spoiler that lay more flat than previous Super Sports. Only 200 Aero Coupes were sold to the public in 1986 - Chevrolet needed to get the body style homologated to meet NASCAR requirements; but the model proved to be a popular option for 1987, when over 6000 units were sold to the public. This Monte Carlo is powered by its original drivetrain, which consists of a 5.0L (305 CID) V8, backed by a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 10-bolt rear end has 3.73:1 gears and a limited slip differential. One of the less common features about this Monte is that it is a T-top car, which was not found on the bulk of the '87 Aero Coupes.
