Chevrolet Monte Carlo 454 cubic inch V8 1970

Allmän beskrivning : Cool triple-black 1970 Monte Carlo. 454 cubic inch V8, automatic transmission, ice cold A/C, and more. Laser-straight bodywork, nice vinyl top with no issues, beautiful interior. Runs and drives great! A fast-appreciating piece of Bowtie muscle ready to rock.

This car wears SS badges, but we don’t believe it’s a real SS. It has all the right ingredients, though: a thumping 454 under the hood, a great stance, and a wicked color combination. The car spent most of its life down south where the weather is warm so it shows none of the signs of trouble like a car from the northern states might. And as you know, black paint doesn’t hide anything and you can see in the photos just how straight this Monte Carlo really is. It’s really nicely done. Door fit is quite good and the gaps are even, so someone spent some time getting things just right. All the brightwork was polished up to look its best, including the bright rocker moldings and trim around the vinyl top, which always seems to get lost along the way. And speaking of the vinyl top, this one is beautiful—we don’t know if it’s original but it sure looks right with no popped seams or signs of rust bubbling up underneath. The car just has a clean look that we really appreciate with no extraneous add-ons or bright paint. Just a nasty black Monte that packs a sledgehammer punch.

The beautiful black vinyl interior has been completely restored, as the trim tag suggests it originally came with cloth. The patterns and materials are right and it looks quite correct, right down to the factory-style seat belts. The dash should look familiar and the simulated burled walnut appliques are still bright and crisp, adding some warmth to the all-black interior. New carpets, correct door panels, and a replacement headliner help wit the clean presentation. The dash and gauges are original with a set of aftermarket dials added underneath to monitor the engine’s vitals better than the factory idiot lights. There’s an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette stereo in the original radio’s slot and the factory A/C works as it should. In fact, everything works except the clock, which isn’t really a surprise. A 4-spoke steering wheel comes from a later model but looks right at home in the sporting Monte Carlo, and gives you a slightly fatter rim to grab. You’ll also note this car has an unusual rear defroster, which is basically just a fan in the trunk that blows air onto the rear window, but it’s a neat option. And the trunk is correctly finished with aqua spatter paint, a correct mat, and a full-sized spare tire assembly.

This car probably came with a small block when it was new, but at some point along the line it received a great-running and quite muscular 454 cubic inch V8. It looks right at home under the hood, wearing bright chrome valve covers and a matching air cleaner, plus a set of reproduction decals advertising 375 horsepower. We don’t know what the actual number might be, but this sucker is stout! There’s also a Weiand aluminum intake manifold, a big Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, and a newer A/C compressor that looks a lot like the original A6 unit. It starts easily, idles with a predatory lope to it, and has a great sound thanks to a set of headers and a Flowmaster-style dual exhaust system. Power steering and power front disc brakes were standard on the Monte Carlo, so it’s easy to handle and the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission serves up crisp shifts. There are new shocks and some fresh front end pieces so it rides and handles nicely—this car is really more luxury than sport. We don’t believe the body has ever been off the frame, but there are clean floors and solid rockers with nothing to hide, again thanks to a lifetime down south. A beefy 12-bolt rear end should be full of 2.56 gears, so this is an easy highway cruiser that lets the big block’s torque do most of the work. 15-inch Rally wheels look right and carry fat 225/70/15 performance radials that really fill the fenders properly.

Documentation includes an owner’s manual.

We’ve been watching 1970 Monte Carlo prices tick up reliably over the past few years, and a black SS just sold for nearly $80,000 at Barrett-Jackson last month. This car is half that price and it’s a lot more than half the car, so if you’ve been looking for a Monte Carlo that looks awesome and runs great, this is a fantastic choice. Call today!

Överraskande, "Amerikas enda sportbil" Corvette infördes i Chevrolet varumärke snarare än sina egna.
