Yes, we called this one a Nova. It wears the more angular front end and special hood of its Pontiac Phoenix cousin, but you're looking at a true Nova (the taillights are part of the telltale.) But it's more than just the unique front end that makes this one distinctive. These fourth-gen Novas are one of the most interesting designs in the car's history. That's what makes this car so exciting. All the best spirit of the previous generations (custom paint, upgraded interiors, and powerful small blocks) are showcased on this one. It starts with the appearance. People have been making Novas their own for decades, so this bold black with a modern clearcoat shine and custom tri-color stripe running down the side is a very cool setup. And those large 17-inch Boyd Coddington wheels give this coupe plenty of mirror-like shine.
Inside, the black interior feels like it's equal parts performance and cozy. You've got high-back bucket seats with a vinyl backing for durability but comfortable cloth where you sit. Plus, there are some great upgrades that range from cup holders to a modern AM/FM/CD stereo with Bluetooth connectivity. But the best treats are reserved just for the driver. Your right hand will instantly gravitate towards the B&M shifter, and your left one will love the Lecarra sports steering wheel. And beyond that is a full set of AutoMeter gauges. All of this lets you know there's something nice under the hood.
Chevy's 350 cubic-inch V8 is dressed to impress with the bold K&N air filter hovering over the polished components like the valve covers and alternator. Plus, features like the newer hoses and an aluminum radiator tell you there was good maintenance to go with the quality presentation. But more than look good, this small block has been given some nice performance upgrades like a four-barrel carburetor, aluminum intake, and long tube headers. That last component not only adds power, but it also contributes to the rumble of the dual exhaust. A classic like this was meant to be driven, and that's why it also has all the right features. A four-speed automatic transmission w/highway-friendly overdrive, posi rear end with 3:55 Richmond gears, power steering, front disc brakes, and the grip of modern Nexen performance tires means you can easily show off this unique Nova near or far.
This is the kind of custom Nova we all knew the fourth-generation car could (and should) be. Not too many people would have taken the time to do a unique coupe like this correctly, which makes it an interesting classic wherever it goes.
