Dodge Challenger R/T 1970

Allmän beskrivning : At RK Motors Charlotte, we sell a lot of investment grade metal. But, even at the top end of the market, there are certain variations of greatness. In short, it's exceptionally difficult to find what some might consider a 'perfect' collector car. However, with that in mind, this fully documented Challenger is so close it's almost scary. According to MoPar expert Dave Wise of MMC Detroit, this drop-top 'is an exceptional example of an ultra-rare, highly documented semi-survivor 1970 Challenger R/T convertible'.
Those are strong words coming from someone who's made a career of studying a lot of excellent MoPars. But, when you consider the car's virtues, it's warranted praise. Let's begin with the obvious: how many 1970 Challenger R/T 440/4-speed convertibles were produced? The answer is this car and only 33 others. Speaking of 440s and 4-speeds, this Challenger is still equipped with its original drivetrain; a drivetrain that's documented to have driven only 39,399 miles. And, expanding on originality and low mileage, the car spent the first 40 years of its life in sunny Colorado, meaning the minor restoration you see in our pictures is the only work its largely original components have ever endured.
HISTORY/APPEARANCE
In addition to providing many pre-restoration photos, this Dodge's Wise Report makes many references to its originality. Perhaps one of the most predictable talking points is the car's mostly-original sheetmetal. Every panel on this Challenger is an original piece, with only the driver's quarter showing any signs of work at all. Naturally, that means the restoration-fresh Go Mango paint you see is the only re-spray the car has ever received. According to Dave Wise, this Challenger features all the right details, including original glass and OEM trim. The car's power-operated top was replaced, as were its correct Performance Hood Treatment and correct Black longitudinal stripes. And today, this clean Dodge rolls as one super slick brute that mixes reference grade authenticity with trophy-winning prowess!
ENGINE
Toss the hood and you'll find an original, 440 cubic inch RB V8 that follows a correct 2536430 casting number and October 31st, 1969 casting date with a matching partial VIN. More popular than Chrysler's famed Hemi, Dodge's stalwart 440 Magnum was designed to be the industry's best combination of comfort, streetability and big block performance. While this Challenger's sale includes its original carburetor, air cleaner and intake, induction is currently handled by a highly desirable SIX PACK set-up. In keeping with authenticity, that SIX PACK intake is a date-correct piece, and those 2-barrel Holleys are dated to the '70s. At the sides of those carbs, original, Hemi Orange valve covers perfectly contrast original, cast iron exhaust manifolds. Cooling comes courtesy of an original Chrysler radiator, which rides in front of an original alternator and an original water pump. And, aesthetically, the bright engine bay presents as expected, from its correct decals and original oil pan all the way to its factory grease marks and old school fluid reservoir.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
When it comes to investments, the old cliché 'Don't fix it if it ain't broke' is often solid advice. That's why, when you slide under this storied E-Body, you'll find a tough, 39K-mile chassis that remains largely unrestored. Behind the big block, an original A833 4-speed hangs a matching partial VIN above a correct assembly stamp. That stalwart gearbox powers an original Dana 60 axle, which spins a posi-traction differential around original, 3.54 gears. That rear end rolls on a factory-spec suspension that's sprung on original springs and guided by an original power steering pump. Exhaust travels through original, 2.5-inch pipes that employ original mufflers and original resonators. Stops come courtesy of hearty drum brakes. And all that MoPar goodness rolls on stylish Rallye Wheels, which twist F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs around polished trim rings and silver center caps.
INTERIOR
Chrysler taught us that at least half the reason people buy fast cars is to been seen, and what better way to be seen than planted in bright White upholstery that's founded on contrasting carpet and wrapped in High Impact Paint? Pop the top on this awesome Challenger and you'll find a correct White interior that's detailed with tasteful wood accents and crisp stainless trim. That cockpit begins with correct Rallye Gauges, which ride next to a correct Chrysler Solid State radio. In front of the driver, a wood-trimmed steering wheel mixes good form with great function. Shifts are executed through a correct Hurst Pistol Grip Shifter. And behind the passengers, a lighted trunk hides an original jack and space saver spare tire.
