Can you believe you can get this cool cruising convertible for under $25K?! After all, we all know Mopars are the rarest of Detroit's Big Three, and this 1965 Dodge Dart GT convertible is exceptionally finished, comes with a pistol-grip four-on-the-floor, and even has the correct V8 with great performance upgrades.
Dodge was particularly bold with this generation Dart by giving some of the wide presence and rounded styling that came from Chrysler's futuristic turbine-powered cars. Today the design has appreciated into a retro-cool reminder of the jet age. So it's great to have such a straight and well-presented body. Only adding to the cool factor on this convertible is an updated shade of red. It's called Alfa Red, and it's a quality application with the right sports car shine. And speaking of shine, the bumpers, grille, finely creased trim, and artful GT badges all look terrific. Brightwork can't be aggressive, too. Just look at those rocker vent trim, dual exhaust tips, and Cragar SS wheels.
The white roof looks great against the red sheetmetal, and it gives this Dart the all-American appeal of a Coca-Cola bottle. So it makes us even happier to see that beneath it is a freshly reupholstered white interior. There was extra time spent here on the details. You see it in the crisp pattern of the insignia trim seats, the artful door panels, and even a clean trunk with a full-size spare on a Cragar. While the dash has a great vintage look, right down to the AM radio, there have also been upgrades that speak directly to the driver. A wood-rimmed steering wheel, auxiliary oil and water readouts, and the iconic Hurst pistol grip shifter mean this is a drop-top made to be enjoyed on the road.
Under the hood is an era-correct 273 cubic-inch V8 that's believed to be original to the car. But pieces like the Mopar Performance air topper and matching valve covers also signal there have been investments in upgrades. It includes a Summit four-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock intake. It's also supported by the right pieces, like a Pertronix Flamethrower ignition coil, newer alternator, and an aluminum radiator. The V8 fires up nicely and makes a sweet rumble from the dual exhaust. You get to be in full control of this power and soundtrack thanks to the four-speed manual transmission. Plus, with power steering, front disc brakes, and a nice tread on the wide BF Goodrich T/As, it's easy to enjoy this drop-top Mopar to the fullest.
