Ferrari 550 Maranello 5.5 Litre V12 no. *58895* 2000

Allmän beskrivning : 2000 Ferrari 550 Maranello
VIN: ZFFZS49A7Y0121190
Blu Pozzi with Saddle Leather and Blue Piping

Introduced in 1996, the flagship Maranello replaced a long line of twelve cylinder mid-engine cars that began with the Berlinetta Boxer and advanced to the Testarossa. Designed to capture the glory days of Ferrari’s legendary front-engine sports cars (notably the legendary 275GTG and 365 GTB/Daytona), the Maranello was welcomed by an enthusiastic public and jubilant automotive press. The Pininfarina styling evoked all the grace and muscularity of many earlier Ferraris without succumbing to retro design ideas. The aggressive, yet beautifully proportioned body hunkered down over the 485 hp V12 engine and 6-speed manual transaxle, delivering a delightful harmony of power and grace in a highly capable and surprisingly agile road car.

This particular Maranello has covered only 11,570 miles since acquired new. Finished in the stunning color combination of Blu Pozzi over Saddle Leather with dark blue accented interior, the beautiful Pozzi blue paint contrasts the interior perfectly, accenting elegance with sporting purpose. This car was originally delivered to a notable Ferrari enthusiast (and regular exhibitor at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance) in Northern California. It is a heavily optioned example to include; shields, painted calipers, modular wheels, upper dash and steering wheel in body color leather, and a quilted rear parcel shelf. The car remained in California throughout subsequent owners, all of whom exercised considerable restraint over the past seventeen years, limiting the miles while maintaining the car to a high standard. A recent Carfax shows no accidents or damage, regular interval service, and passing California emission requirements without issue. Ferrari experts Patrick Ottis & Company just completed a timing belt change (only) service in July of 2017 and all systems are in excellent running condition, including frigid cold-blowing air conditioning.

Cosmetically, this Maranello is in very fine condition as evidenced by the low miles it has covered since new. The paint finish is quite nice throughout appearing original with the exception of the front bumper, which has been recently repainted due to common stone rash. The tinted glass and beautiful blue paint create a handsome and unified effect to the overall shape of the car. The glass, lighting, and lenses are in excellent condition with no notable chips or marks. The emblems and script are nearly flawless as well. Both doors, hood, and trunk all open and shut with confidence and exhibit excellent panel fit throughout the car. The desirable modular wheels are in near mint condition and feature red brake calipers peering aggressively through the polished aluminum five spoke wheels and bolted rims.

The interior of the car is in especially nice condition. There is minimal “tacky” or sticky finish to the surfaces, which one often finds on these cars. The leather is supple and smooth with excellent surfacing and almost no marks of note. The color combination is both elegant and sporty with contrasting blue piping, and seat inserts recalling the legendary Daytona. The body color matched dashboard, steering wheel, instruments and switches are all in near new condition, appearing to have been pampered even while in use. The steering wheel has some minor puckering to the horn pad which is common to these cars, but is otherwise free of notable wear. The driver’s seat has very minor wear on the seat bolster- almost obligatory for any 10,000+ mile car- but no compromise to the bolster foam. All other leather surfaces including the headliner, center console, door panels, visors, and A-pillars are all in excellent to near new condition. Even the center console remains free from rippling, which is often evident in these cars. Carpeting is in very good condition as is the diamond stitched rear package shelf. In all, the interior is handsome and fresh with excellent fit and finish befitting a car of this stature. The trunk area remains nearly new and consistent with the rest of the interior, essentially factory original. Clearly the previous owners have maintained this Maranello with proper care and enthusiastic consideration, protecting the quality and excellence of this car with thoughtful use.

Under the hood, the purposefully sculpted V12 has been properly preserved with excellent castings, factory housings and accessory equipment. The original fittings and hardware, are highlighted by proper detailing, showcasing genuine pride of ownership. All Ferrari number plates, factory installation stickers, and verification markings are in place and in excellent condition. The original engine and engine compartment are exceptionally clean and correct. The underside of the car has been beautifully preserved and maintained, owing to the years it has spent in California since new. The entire undercarriage appears nearly new in several areas including suspension components, exhaust system, and hardware. There is no significant road rash showing on any of the aerodynamic chassis shields or surrounding components.

The car drives and shifts beautifully with no hesitation in power and smooth gate action through all gears. Delightfully engaging with the 6 speed manual transmission, one is clearly in command of tremendous power, all within the palm of your right hand. Road manners are exactly as described when new, capable yet occasionally wickedly quick. The car awakens in each gear when prompted with a demanding right foot. Cornering and braking are poised and commanding as one might expect from a car of this presence. Exhaust note is improved from stock with Tubi muffler canisters (originals included with the sale). The overall look and feel of this car is consistent with the 11,500 miles it has covered over the years, with plenty of exceptionally rewarding miles remaining for the next fortunate owner. A complete Ferrari tool set, all manuals (with leather cover), records for service work performed back to 2003, and factory ownership accessories accompany the car including extra keys and the factory car cover.

This 550 Maranello is both in excellent condition as well as attractively optioned. It is presented with beautifully maintained finishes, and is ready to drive and enjoy at this time. Known ownership and low miles further validate the history and care given this handsome and capable car. The supple leather interior with contrasting blue exterior make this 550 Ferrari Maranello a captivating and desirable union of grace and power ready to please the next enthusiast, either on the open road, or as the modern classic accent piece of a growing collection.

Under ytspänningen växte dock.
