This fire engine red 1965 Ford F-100 is a prime example of a vintage truck that has remained amazingly true to its original form. A leisurely walk around this rugged workhorse reveals a rust-free southern truck with a body that is straight and solid. One of the more unique aspects of this pickup is its flare side cargo bed. Immensely popular around the farm and on the jobsite, most flare sides took quite a beating during their lifetimes. This bed is in remarkably good shape. Even the traditional wooden-slatted floor has been replaced and is in very nice condition. Custom-crafted wooden side boards provide a bit of an old school touch to the overall appearance. The painted white grille and chrome front bumper are near-pristine, and the base model painted hub caps are all present and looking great. A bed-mounted spare tire is somewhat of a rarity on these trucks and adds a little pizzazz to the cosmetics. A closer inspection confirms that every body part on this truck is specific to the correct model and year. She's a '65 from one end to the other. And few would argue the fact that bright red is THE color for a vintage Ford pickup. The truck was repainted a few years back, and while the finish boasts plenty of luster, it certainly isn't a show truck. But it still looks really nice for a vintage work truck.
The inside of this eye-catching pickup further emphasizes its working class pedigree. To be sure, the spacious interior is pretty basic, but everything you need is well within reach. The bench seat has been beautifully reupholstered in black vinyl, providing a look and feel that is both attractive and inviting. The interior paint appears to be all original, as does the rubber floor mat. The steering wheel isn't all cracked up, and all of the buttons and knobs are in place and presentable. It's also equipped with the standard issue Ford AM radio. The doors and windows have a nice tight seal, so there is no annoying wind noise.
You'll find this truck to be mechanically sound in virtually every way. Beneath the hood is a freshly-painted 240 cubic inch six cylinder engine. If you're familiar with the iconic "240", you know its reputation for raw pulling power and unwavering durability. The motor in this truck is completely stock and runs like a champ. A three-speed manual transmission and 9" Ford rear end put the power to the ground via a set of 225/75R15 radials. You'll find the chassis to be clean and sturdy from stem to stern. The focal point of the undercarriage is the patented Twin-I-Beam front suspension, a set-up that revolutionized the way Ford built trucks. Twin-I-Beam ensures a smooth and stable ride with no wandering over the road. The manual steering shows no excessive play, and the four-wheel drum brakes can stop this truck right in its tracks. This is indeed a very unique truck. Most surviving pickups from the '60s are the more upscale models with styleside beds and lots of chrome trim.
