The 1957 Fords were an exceptionally distinctive year with exclusive styling touches. So when you can find a Fairlane hardtop that's complete, right down to the correct 292 V8, and it also has a few cool upgrades, then you know we're offering it at an irresistible price.
This is arguably one of the sleekest classic Ford styles around. It was the debut of the tailfin, and the single headlight design exclusive to the '57s has an almost frenched-in look. But what's really impressive is that it's a minor miracle this coupe looks so good and all the intricate pieces are complete. The impressiveness starts with the paint. The two-tone Torch Red and Colonial White is a modern paint interpretation of a factory color combination. Workmanship is quite good with the stainless trim along the separation line remaining complete. This full-length silver and gold streak needs truly straight sheetmetal for it to make this kind of stellar impression over the whole body. But the best ornamentation is saved for the rear. Everyone loves the look of the continental kit, and it gives this already premium Fairlane a true standout endcap. The perfect final touch is the white and chrome hubcaps that coordinate so nicely with the coupe's trim as well as the whitewall tires.
Inside, you get great white vinyl seats with comfortable red cloth inserts. The way this coordinates with the carpeting, door panels, headliner, and dash gives you a uniform presentation that you'll be proud to show off. The view from behind the wheel is pure 1950s cool. Ford's arching instrument panel is a great-looking piece of industrial design, complete with plenty of bright trim to accentuate the dash. And the whole presentation looks period-correct right down to the heat/defrost sliders.
Under the hood is a great-looking powerplant that continues this Fairlane's factory-like appearance. The 292 cubic-inch motor was known as the Thunderbird V8 in '57, and so those valve covers have been earned. Topped with a Holley four-barrel carburetor, it's a powerhouse of a motor, but it doesn't lose its easy cruising attitude as it sweetly purrs through its extended dual exhaust system. The Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission stays comfortable as it clicks through the gears without a fuss. Plus, power steering and supple suspension mean this is great cruising classic.
When you really want to understand the quality of this one, just take a look at the undercarriage photos.
