Plymouth GTX 426 HEMI V8 1968

Allmän beskrivning : RK Motors Charlotte is home to some of the coolest muscle cars on the planet, and we've built our reputation on bringing you the best MoPars money can buy. Over the past several years, we've sold more Hemi-powered Chryslers than anyone. And when we tell you this 1 of 193 Hemi GTX is one of the coolest MoPars on the market, it's coming from first-hand experience. A low-option classic that's been restored as needed, this authentic Hemi coupe has been in the care of one meticulous owner for the last 41 years. Today, it's a highly correct, largely original street bruiser that's ready to be the star of your next show!
SAME AS IT ALWAYS WAS
Optioned for speed, this spectacular Pentastar is one of only 410 Hemi GTXs produced for the 1968 model year, and one of only 193 Hemi GTXs equipped with Chrysler's drag king TorqueFlite. Since the car had spent most of its life roaming the roads with one family, it was a solid, largely original survivor that had weathered the decades well. That said, circa 2001, this Plymouth was subjected to a comprehensive, 2-year restoration that addressed many points of wear. During that build, the car's clean body was stripped bare and augmented with a fresh trunk pan. And once that profile was solid and prepped, correct Medium Blue Metallic 2-stage was trimmed in sporty side stripes.
Taking a lesson in style and brand awareness from the likes of Ford, Chevrolet and Pontiac, Plymouth outfitted their mighty GTX with a number of hot styling cues that better differentiate the car from its plebian Belvedere siblings. At the front of this coupe's broad shouldered body, a black-trimmed grille hangs a prominent 'GTX' emblem between clean headlights, simple parking lamps and a heavy chrome bumper. At the top of that grille, a blocky hood seats subtle 'HEMI' scripts in front of polished stainless, satin wipers and chip-free glass. Behind that hood, a polished driver's mirror reflects a brute profile, which centers factory door handles amid ornate markers, polished rockers and large 'GTX' emblems. And at the back of the car, a cast valance centers bold 'PLYMOUTH' and 'GTX' lettering between bright taillights, polished exhaust tips and a second heavy bumper.
CORRECT HEMI POWER
Toss the hood and you'll find a correct, 426 cubic inch Hemi V8 that's dated to seven months after the build of the car. Professionally rebuilt by S-K Speed Racing Equipment of Lindenhurst, New York, that legendary elephant motor utilizes a magnafluxed crank, magnafluxed rods, .040 over JE pistons and a Comp hydraulic cam to twist big compression into big horsepower! All that high performance hardware spins in a large, Hemi Orange block that hangs vintage, Organisol-coated valve covers over correct, low-restriction exhaust manifolds. A perfect mixture of fuel and air falls through correct Carter carburetors and a correct aluminum intake. Compression is sparked by 7mm Belden plug wires, which are snapped onto a correct points distributor. And resultant combustion is cooled by a big, 26-inch radiator that's paired to pliable hoses via requisite screw clamps. Visually, the car's Medium Blue engine compartment is clean and understated… Well, as understated as a classic Hemi can be. And naturally, details like a polished air cleaner, a MoPar red cap battery and a familiar Chrysler washer reservoir are present and accounted for.
BETTER THAN CORRECT
Slide beneath this exclusive B-Body and you'll find a tidy undercarriage that's ready to rock the road! Medium Blue Metallic 2-stage highlights exceptionally solid floors. The raucous Hemi leads a tough A727 3-speed that was sourced directly from TCI. That gearbox leads a trusty 8.75-inch axle that's finished with big, 3.91 gears and a choice Sure Grip differential. Naturally, that spirited driveline rides a factory-spec suspension, which is shackled to traditional manual steering. Stops come courtesy of standard drum brakes. Exhaust is handled by large-diameter tubes, which bend around an H-shaped crossover and Flowmaster dual-chamber mufflers. And all that MoPar goodness rolls on traditional Cragar S/S, which twist 225/70R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As in front of 275/60R15 Nitto NT555R Extreme Drags.
AS IT ALWAYS WAS
Swivel this Plymouth's doors and you'll find a correct Light Blue interior that, according to the car's current owner, is still largely original. The front bucket and rear bench seats are wrapped in pliable vinyl covers that were replaced during the restoration. Fresh carpet is nicely complemented by original door panels and correct Light Blue Metallic door frames. At the front of the car, a pliable dash hangs rebuilt telemetry and a correct Solid State radio above an Auto Meter tachometer and a Stewart Warner oil gauge. In front of the driver, a blue-rimmed steering wheel spins an old school Mayflower around a small column shifter. And behind the passengers, a vast trunk centers a correct jack and spare tire on a correct mat.
PROVENANCE
When you order a purpose-built racer, it's good practice to go light on the options. Here's a quick look at this coupe's sparse Fender Tag.
