Porsche 911 / 993 Carrera Cabriolet 1995

Allmän beskrivning : Model History
993 is Porsche's internal name for 911s manufactured and sold between late 1993 and early 1998, replacing the 964. Its discontinuation marked the end of air-cooled Porsches. The external design of the 993, penned by Englishman Toni Hatter, retained the basic bodyshell architecture of the 964 but with changed external panels; it boasted more flared wheel arches and a smoother front and rear bumper design, plus an enlarged retractable rear wing.

A major technical change was the implementation of an all alloy multi-link rear suspension attached to an alloy sub frame, the first major mechanical change since the original 911. It required the widening of the rear wheel arches, which itself helped the 993's stability. This suspension improved the handling, making it more direct and stable, helping to reduce the tendency to oversteer if the throttle was lifted during hard cornering. It also reduced interior noise and improved ride quality.

The Carrera was available in rear and all-wheel drive versions. In contrast with the 964, Porsche deleted the "2" from the rear-wheel drive "Carrera" nametag. The car was equipped with the naturally aspirated 3.6-litre M64 engine, further developed from the 964, and combined with a new dual-flow exhaust system now incorporating two catalytic converters.

The Cabriolet, introduced in 1994 for the 1995 model year, featured a fully electrical and hand-stitched soft-top reinforced with metal sheets and an automatic wind-blocker.

Equipment

UK specification (C16), Aventurine Green Metallic (L39S), Classic Grey leather upholstery (SB), Electric folding soft-top in black, Automatic transmission (249), Sports seats with electric height adjustment (373/374), Leather Sports steering wheel (432), Wind deflector (551) with storage bag, Graduated tint windscreen (567), On-board computer (659), Hood cover with storage bag, Laserline alarm and immobiliser, Spare key and immobiliser fob.

Exterior

The curvaceous lines of the 993 look splendid in rare Aventurine Green Metallic, a handsome colour that can also appear grey depending on the light. The paintwork is remarkably fresh all round and there are almost no stone chips to the front end. The finish retains a sharp metallic flake and deep glossy shine, and on close inspection smaller details such as the rubber trims still appear in fine fettle. All light clusters including the rear reflector are without any cracks or moisture damage, and the electric folding soft-top also presents perfectly having been renewed in 2016.

Interior

The desirable hardback sports seats are upholstered in unmarked Classic Grey leather. The appearance is beautiful throughout, the leather having been professionally treated a short while back with little use since then. The upholstery remains perfectly supple and has more in common with a car having done half the mileage. The steering wheel and gear knob show almost no signs of age, and the carpets are free from any notable marking. Under the bonnet you’ll find a pristine load compartment with the options code sticker still in place.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The M64 flat six starts up with that familiar air-cooled tone before idling smoothly up to temperature. The engine bay is extremely clean and mechanically the car is in excellent fettle. There are thirteen stamps in the original maintenance booklet, all of which are from Porsche or renowned Porsche specialists.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

Each of the five-spoke alloys appear in perfect condition having been treated to a full refurb a short while back; new coloured Porsche centre caps were fitted at the same time. The wheels are shod in a matching set of Bridgestone tyres with plenty of life left; the rears were fitted at 60k miles and the fronts at 66k. The brake fluid was also replaced at 66k miles.

History File

The 911 was supplied new by Lancaster Porsche in February 1995. It has been under the same careful ownership since 2006 and has now driven a total of just 66,708 miles. The car is accompanied by a great service record and plenty of paperwork to verify the low mileage. Looking in the History File you’ll find the original leather document pack with all manuals, a stack of main dealer and specialist invoices, plus every MOT certificate from three years old. The original maintenance booklet is stamped thirteen times at the following mileages: 2k, 4k, 8k, 26k, 31k, 35k, 43k, 44k, 49k, 52k, 55k, 66k, and most recently again at 66k miles. The stamps are all from either Porsche main dealers or Porsche specialists.
