Indexed and Trapped in a Vault

To some the more seasoned enthusiasts out there, some of today’s collector car values might seem outright bonkers!

The market has witnessed a new wake of speculative buyers that seem to perceive the high end sports and race cars primarily as investment goods. As further evidence there are now several institutions that publish Collector Car Indexes monitoring the financial value of chosen classics, such as:

Dow Jones Investment-Car Index even goes as far as giving buy-sell-hold recommendations for the cars monitored. Seriously, would you buy a car just because guys at Dow Jones told you so?

Rising monetary value is a double edge sword. One hand you do benefit from it if you are forced to liquidate your collection, on the other hand it might block out some of the young aspiring enthusiasts for good. Latter of which sure cannot be a good thing in the long run, can it?
