Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV 1972

General description : The Alfa Romeo Giulia 105 series coupe was first introduced in 1962, replacing the 101 series and based on a shortened wheelbase from the Giulia saloon. Production ran until 1977 with a variety of models and engine sizes. The 2000 GT Veloce launched in 1971 and was an instant hit, matching its jewel like twin-cam four-cylinder engine with a stunning coupe body designed for Bertone by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The 2000 GTV was a direct replacement for the 1750 range and featured a number of changes over its predecessor. Displacement increased to 1,962 cc with power increasing to 130 bhp at 5,500 rpm. Externally, the 2000 GTV is easily distinguished by its horizontal chrome grille at the front and larger rear light clusters. The interior also received several updates, most notably, a separate instrument cluster rather than the gauges being installed in the dash panel itself. The LHD example we are delighted to offer for sale was manufactured on the 30th June 1972 and first delivered to Europe. It remained in Europe until 1986 when it was sold and exported to the United Kingdom, where it has remained ever since. In 2010, it was purchased by Alfa Romeo enthusiast Carl Kirk, who in October that year treated the car to an extensive, ground up restoration, returning it to its former glory. All parts used in the restoration were supplied by Alfa specialists Classic Alfa. The work done to the car is fully documented and supported by a large number of sundry invoices and a thorough photographic record. In 2013, the car was sold once more to a collector in the United Kingdom with 45,000 miles on the odometer. Two years later, in 2015, contact was made with Alfa Romeo specialists Alfaholics for them to carry out a full upgrade to the car. In total, over £43,000 was spent with Alfaholics, transforming the GTV into a serious B-road weapon! Upgrades included, fitment of their 216 bhp Big Valve Monza Twinspark engine, an uprated induction kit, a lightened flywheel, a hydraulic clutch conversion and an Alfaholics performance exhaust. Cooling is improved by an aluminium radiator, oil cooler, and an electric cooling fan. The car also features a lightened Alfaholics race prop, their 6-Pot GTA-R brake upgrade, and Stage two "Fast Road" suspension package. The interior was also treated to some Alfaholics magic, with upgraded sports road seats trimmed in black leather with bespoke GTV style stitching, Wilton wool carpets, Alfaholics Dynamat road kit, retro look radio, Momo steering wheel, and an ECU driven rev counter. The car was enjoyed by its owner after these upgrades were carried out and in 2018 it was purchased by legendary Indy car world champion Dario Franchitti. The car sits today in superb condition with the odometer now showing 50,500 miles and presents "on the button" ready to be enjoyed. The car maintains a detailed history file with a vast number of invoices documenting both the restoration work and the upgrades carried out by Alfaholics. It also features an article by Classics Monthly on the restoration as well as a selection of photographs from both the restoration and upgrades with Alfaholics. The extensive Alfaholics upgrades were carried out on top of an already brilliantly restored example, meaning this car is surely one of the finest examples of the 2000 GTV out there and a superb car to be enjoyed on a spirited drive!
