BMW 3.0 CSi '75 1975

General description : Last E9 MY built Has been fully restored ten years ago using four ‘knockdown cars’ Has never seen a drop of rain, nor a flake of snow ever since – coachwork in mint condition Paint in BMW Nachtblau with the interior done by Pullman With Alpina rims and ‘Mischbereifung’-tyres Coachwork of an E9 CSA Has just had its maintenance Comes with the BMW original and unused emergency kit, although that does not surprise anyone given the reliability of these cars The BMW E9 is a sports coupé that was BMW's pride and joy for seven years, from 1968 to 1974, among both consumers and in motorsports. During these seven years of production, four models were released that gradually became more modern, powerful and luxurious, or were only intended for use on the track. The Germans therefore have an eye for detail and luxury, which is directly reflected in the interior. They also know very well how to build cars, although new models often become controversial. The first model was the BMW 2800 CS, a two-door coupé with a powerful 2.8L six-cylinder engine that delivers 170 hp. The design was based on the predecessor (and less popular) BMW 2000 CS. The sharp nose and horizontal lines create a sporty - later characteristic - BMW look. Just two years later, the BMW 3.0 CS was introduced, equipped with a new M30 engine, a 3.0L six-cylinder engine with 180 hp. In 1971, the 3.0 CS was the fastest road legal BMW, quickly catching the eye and being praised for its performance. The following year, the 3.0 CSL was released, the "L" referring to the word "Leicht," which means “light” in German, the L was embodied in the light aluminium body and aerodynamic adjustments. This model won every edition of the European Touring Car Championship from 1974 to 1979. Shortly after the introduction of the CSL, Bayerische Motoren Werke also released an equivalent, meant to be sold to customers. This E9 variant was named CSi and was built for four years. This model had more luxury in general: a range of options such as automatic transmission and electric windows. Mechanically, the car is equipped with a 2986 cc in-line six-cylinder engine that delivers 200 hp. The sporty design by Wilhelm Hofmeister, the high-performance engine that provides a never-boring driving experience, and the typical BMW look - originating from the home region - on which the BMW 6-series is based today, make this classic car highly sought after by enthusiasts. Bayerische Motoren Werke, commonly known as BMW, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1916. Initially established as an aircraft-engine manufacturer during World War I, BMW faced restrictions on aircraft production after the war. In response, the company shifted its focus to motorcycle production in 1923, marking the beginning of its involvement in the automotive industry. Subsequently, BMW entered the world of automobiles in 1928 by producing the DIXI, essentially a licensed version of the Austin 7 from the Austin Motor Company.

In the 1930s, BMW began to establish itself as a manufacturer of elegant and high-performance vehicles. One notable model from this era is the BMW 327, introduced in 1937. The 327 was available as both a coupe and a cabriolet, showcasing the brand's commitment to luxury and style. Additionally, BMW achieved success in sports car racing during this period, particularly with the BMW 328. The 328, which debuted in 1936, became renowned for its performance and aerodynamics. BMW campaigned the 328 in various racing events, including the prestigious Mille Miglia, where the company introduced several aerodynamic specials.

The post-war era proved challenging for BMW, and the company faced financial difficulties that nearly led to bankruptcy. However, BMW managed to recover and rebuild, eventually becoming one of the leading premium automotive brands globally.

As the 1960s unfolded, BMW further solidified its reputation for producing sports-oriented and luxurious vehicles. In 1968, the BMW 2002 was introduced, marking the birth of the "New Class" of compact, sporty sedans. The 2002 gained popularity for its agile handling and performance, laying the foundation for BMW's sporty image.

Moving into the 1970s, BMW expanded its lineup with the introduction of the E9 platform, which included the iconic BMW 3.0 CS coupe. The E9 series showcased BMW's commitment to blending performance and luxury. In 1972, the M1, BMW's first mid-engined sports car, made its debut. The M1 was initially developed as a racing car but later became a road-going model. The M1 laid the groundwork for BMW's high-performance M series.

In the late 1970s, the BMW E24 6 Series was introduced, offering a combination of luxury and performance. The 6 Series included models like the 630CS, 633CSi, and 635CSi, becoming a symbol of sophistication and driving pleasure.

Through these milestones and a commitment to innovation and performance, BMW has evolved into a powerhouse in the automotive industry, maintaining its status as one of the leading premium brands worldwide.
