1970 Chevrolet El Camino SS 454 LS6 (LHD)

The Chevrolet El Camino was first introduced in 1959, sharing its platform with the Chevrolet Impala before soon ending production and resuming production again in 1964, this time sharing a platform with the Chevelle. Whilst Chevelle SS models were available already in 1964, it took several more years before high performance options became available for the “Elkie”. In 1966, they became available with the SS Package and Big Block Engines but it was in 1970 when they would reach their performance peak.

Chevrolet launched the 454 Big-Block Engine with two high performance versions, the LS5 and most significantly, the LS6 Engine. Equipped with a Single 4-Barrel Holley carburetor, it was rated from the factory at 450 bhp, though its widely believed that this was a highly underrated figure with the actual horsepower being well over 500 bhp, truly astonishing figures even now, let alone in 1970. So powerful was the LS6 in fact that it remained the most powerful engine produced by General Motors all the way until 2006 when they introduced the aptly-named new LS6 Engine in the Corvette C6 Z06.

The car we are honoured to present to you today is one of just approximately 500 El Caminos fitted from the factory with the worshipped LS6 Engine. A total of 4,475 cars, primarily Chevelles, were built with the one-year-only LS6 Engine, of which the El Camino is the rarest body style by a country mile. Finished in Tuxedo Black with white stripes, the car is truly one of the best available anywhere, not to mention one of the only cars as well. The interior presents excellently too, as does the engine bay. Until only recently, the car was part of one of the most formidable and well-respected car collections in the UK and has been well cared for throughout its life. It comes with a detailed history file which includes the original, factory build sheet as well as its original “protect-o-plate” which is from the car’s original dealer warranty. The car even won its class in a Chevrolet Concours event in Pomona California. There is also paperwork for an engine rebuild carried out whilst in California along with its American title and much more.

The performance still holds up today with the car being shockingly fast to drive, combined with a sound like a powerboat when idling and a menacing roar. And yet, unlike most other cars with this kind of performance from this period which are barely usable on a day-to-day basis whereas the El Camino is perfectly comfortable and easy to drive when you want it to be.

This fabulous LS6 El Camino is one of the greatest icons of American Muscle Car History from its Golden Era and such a rare opportunity which is not to be missed. One very occasionally sees LS6 Chevelles come up at auction but El Caminos are truly as rare as hen’s teeth, let alone one with such a lovely, rich detailed history file and in such stunning condition. Whatever you do, don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to buy “the Fastest Truck in the world!”

About Chevrolet
Chevrolet aka Chevy, founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant is the best selling and biggest brand by General Motors -mainly due to low pricing.

No wonder Chevy the "working man's car" has become such an iconic part of Americana in films and pop-culture.

When talking about Chevy one must not ignore Chevrolet small-block V8 the world's most produced engine that has been in production since 1955 and still going strong.

Surprisingly, "America's only sports car" Corvette was introduced under Chevrolet brand rather than its own. To us the most memorable Corvette has to be The second generation (C2) Corvette, Sting Ray.

To compete with VW Beatle Chevrolet introduced Corvair a compact automobile built in 1960–1969 It was the only American designed, mass-produced passenger car to feature a rear-mounted air-cooled engine. Corvair handling was deemed notoriously bad mainly due to Ralph Nader's Unsafe at Any Speed. Although, any handling issues were soon solved the reputation did stick.

With Pony / Muscle car mania taking over the Americans, following the introduction of Ford Mustang, Chevrolet came up with one of its most famous models Camaro. During the first year alone they managed to sell 220,906 Camaros.
