Chevrolet Impala SS 1994

General description : In the early 90s, it was sometimes tough to be a GM fan. Detroit bean counters had relegated many of the company's proud models to bland copycats of compromised, committee-driven designs. But, every once in a while, true car guys broke free from GM's massive bureaucracy and knocked one straight out of the park! Wrapping a proven Corvette V8 in sinister, all-business aesthetics, this 1994 Chevrolet Impala SS is one such homerun. Fully documented and sporting only 24,891 miles, the car is a reference-grade survivor in virtually every way. And, as one of only 6,303 Impalas built for the 1994 model year, it's as unique as it is cool! Now that GM's Performance Division has taken an indefinite hiatus, the search is on for modern collector cars which set the standard for future classics. And this big and bad sedan is a solid bet to lead the pack!
THE BEGINNING OF AN ERA
At first glance, all-American, mid-1990s vintage seems arguably cleaner than much of today's aero-optimized styling. And this 2-owner sedan's original Black and Gray aesthetics seem a soothing and welcome distraction from the mosaic of crossover-inspired décor the market is currently enduring. In fact, this Chevy's Black Tie pigment is decidedly contemporary, proving once again that good taste never goes out of style. And overall, this cruiser's looks certainly defy the decades its VIN suggests. The car's curvaceous, Caprice-based body kicks off with a unique, single bar grille that floats a chrome bowtie between a body-matched bumper and clean Twilight Sentinel Headlamps. Behind that grille, a smooth hood founds chrome-trimmed glass between a power antenna, 1994-exclusive door-mount mirrors and 1994-exclusive Impala badging. At the sides of that hood, radiused wheel arches frame tasteful blackout door guards and flush blackout door handles in front of sporty 'Impala SS' quarter scripts. And at the back of the car, a second monochromatic bumper bends between distinct taillights, a subtle deck spoiler and a third Impala badge.
CORVETTE + 9C1
While a Chevy this sinister couldn't have just any old engine, the show car's 500+ cubic inch big block just wasn't practical. Not to worry since GM usually has quite a few excellent V8s hanging around, and dipping into the Corvette parts bin for a few 350 cubic inch LT1s seemed a natural solution. The Impala SS-exclusive LT1 utilizes cast iron heads and a slightly tweaked cam to turn an easy 260 horsepower into 330 lb./ft. of quick torque. Of course, to make sure the car's accessories communicate with its fresh engine, Chevrolet had to install a higher output electrical system and a high capacity reverse flow cooling system. The result was a durable package that, routinely hammered by police forces and taxi drivers, is known for logging hundreds of thousands of miles.
That choice engine is backed by a reliable 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission that's equipped with a factory transmission cooler. That transmission spins a limited-slip differential around mild, 3.08 gears. Holding that tough drivetrain in place is a larger-gauge frame that, along with this Chevy's sport-tuned suspension, was lifted directly from the Caprice's hugely successful 9C1 Police Package. At the front of the car, a traditional double A-arm suspension benefits from quick-ratio power steering, a larger front stabilizer bar and DeCarbon gas shocks. At the back of the car, a rugged 4-link suspension includes a second beefy stabilizer bar and reinforced springs that were borrowed directly from the Corvette. At the corners of those one-inch-lowered bones, standard ABS clamps four calipers around 12-inch discs. Factory true-dual exhaust gives the LT1 a nice rumble. And striking, brushed aluminum wheels ride pliable 255/50ZR17 BF Goodrich Comp T/As.
ROOM TO GO
Leather was the only choice in the Impala SS and, in this classic, it remains in great condition. Naturally, part of the Impala SS package was embroidered logos on both the car's power-operated buckets and fixed bench. Straight-on, a straight dash cages cool digital gauges above factory climate control and a factory stereo. A slim console features a small armrest. Padded door panels hug chrome buttons for power windows, power mirrors and power door locks that are sequenced to standard Remote Keyless Entry. And the driver spins a Camaro-style, Impala SS-exclusive steering wheel around a tilting column that's finished with standard Cruise Control.
Today's pedigreed metal is virtually guaranteed to be tomorrow's blue chip collectibles. Whether you're a diehard Chevrolet fan, or just a smart investor looking for a good bet on solid appreciation, this rare B-Body is the modern classic you crave!

About Chevrolet
Chevrolet aka Chevy, founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant is the best selling and biggest brand by General Motors -mainly due to low pricing.

No wonder Chevy the "working man's car" has become such an iconic part of Americana in films and pop-culture.

When talking about Chevy one must not ignore Chevrolet small-block V8 the world's most produced engine that has been in production since 1955 and still going strong.

Surprisingly, "America's only sports car" Corvette was introduced under Chevrolet brand rather than its own. To us the most memorable Corvette has to be The second generation (C2) Corvette, Sting Ray.

To compete with VW Beatle Chevrolet introduced Corvair a compact automobile built in 1960–1969 It was the only American designed, mass-produced passenger car to feature a rear-mounted air-cooled engine. Corvair handling was deemed notoriously bad mainly due to Ralph Nader's Unsafe at Any Speed. Although, any handling issues were soon solved the reputation did stick.

With Pony / Muscle car mania taking over the Americans, following the introduction of Ford Mustang, Chevrolet came up with one of its most famous models Camaro. During the first year alone they managed to sell 220,906 Camaros.
