Chevrolet Vega 1976

General description : BUY THIS CAR VIEW VEGA'S VIEW CHEVROLET'S For sale in our Orlando showroom is this 1976 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega. Cosworth is synonymous with racing engines and one of the first road cars to carry the name here in the States was the Cosworth Vega. Chevrolet succeeded here in bringing some much needed power and respect to their line of small and medium cars. The Cosworth Vega is a limited-production, high performance version of the standard Vega. The car's all-aluminum 122 cu inches (2.0 liter) engine puts out a respectable 110 hp at 5600 RPM. GM vice-president, John DeLorean, sent researchers to Cosworth Engineering in England to improve the Vega's performance with a new 16-valve cylinder head, DOHC motor. Cosworth Engineering manufactured racing engines that propelled the Lola and Chevron racecars to victory in their first races. The 1,990-cc four that eventually came to power the Cosworth Vega was originally intended by the British-based firm to be a racing-only engine. Based on the Vega’s aluminum block, the first poured motors were totally off the wall, producing upwards of 260-horsepower. DeLorean, seeking a way make the Vega less of a dog, hooked up one of GM’s engine designers - Calvin Wade - to work with Cosworth to engineer a streetable version of the engine. The Vega power plant produced a reported 260 hp (190 kW). The ZO9 Cosworth Vega engine is a de-tuned version of its racing champion forebears. Valve sizes, bore and stroke are identical but it lacks the dry sump lubricating system (not needed in a street use car), has a lower compression ratio and different valve timing, and uses Bendix electronic fuel injection. About Chevrolet
Chevrolet aka Chevy, founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant is the best selling and biggest brand by General Motors -mainly due to low pricing.

No wonder Chevy the "working man's car" has become such an iconic part of Americana in films and pop-culture.

When talking about Chevy one must not ignore Chevrolet small-block V8 the world's most produced engine that has been in production since 1955 and still going strong.

Surprisingly, "America's only sports car" Corvette was introduced under Chevrolet brand rather than its own. To us the most memorable Corvette has to be The second generation (C2) Corvette, Sting Ray.

To compete with VW Beatle Chevrolet introduced Corvair a compact automobile built in 1960–1969 It was the only American designed, mass-produced passenger car to feature a rear-mounted air-cooled engine. Corvair handling was deemed notoriously bad mainly due to Ralph Nader's Unsafe at Any Speed. Although, any handling issues were soon solved the reputation did stick.

With Pony / Muscle car mania taking over the Americans, following the introduction of Ford Mustang, Chevrolet came up with one of its most famous models Camaro. During the first year alone they managed to sell 220,906 Camaros.
